A Young Designer's Dream

This is an article on a young designer named Brian Colvin. "There are some amateur builders out there who turn out phenomenal work. There are some amateur builders out there who turn out phenomenal work. Bobby Alloway won the Riddler when he was still working a regular full time job.

As a designer, my dream is to team up with an amateur with more talent than most, and design a hot rod that will get a lot of attention, and launch both of our names into the industry

I've spoken with shops who do custom work, but most see my work as either too radical, too high end, or just not the direction they wish to go in. Now I am all for accepting input, but as many of you know a good designer can design something much better looking than a builder.

Ok, so my carbon fiber and magnesium framed and carbon bodied 34 with the retractable glass top is a bit out there, but my 69 Camaro design is wicked and subtle, and cleans up the great original design greatly. The 69 Firebird a little radical but no more so than any steel 34 ford that's been chopped channeled and set up with IRS and a blown small block. My Rambler/Rumbler design is very simple and only cuts out the door handles on the outside. The Olds Rocket design is truly wicked and would be best done as a fiberglass body on a modified Vette chassis. But again, nothing that people out there have not done before. My 50 Ford Tudor simple and probably done before, but the 'fifty' concept takes the next step from Ford's Forty-Nine concept. The 50 Woodie also takes it a step further.

Short of going door to door and dealing with a lot of builders who know what they want to make and don't want free design work done for them, where do I start? I've offered work to many shops who either don't reply, or just say they have too much on their plates right now, and don't have the finances to take on a shop funded project or don't know a buyer for the car.

Take a look at Brian’s designs and see what you think!!!
