The 19th Annual Auto Club California Hot Rod Reunion at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway was cut short by wind during the semi-finals. Top Fuel and Nostalgia Funny Car finalists will be completing their final runs at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in November at Pomona, CA.

This year’s Grand Marshal was Tom Hanna, Honorees included Bill Bagshaw, Don Long, Al “Mousie” Marcellus, Tom Prufer and the team of Steinegger and Eshenbaugh. A surprise Honoree, Dave “Mac” McClelland was presented with a “Wally” for his dedication and support of the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum. The Jungle Jim Funny Car team was honored with the Justice Brothers Car Care Products Spotlight Award. The Golden Age Award went to one of NHRA’s first board members and friend of Wally Parks, Gordon Browning. He helped establish racing at Pomona and the legendary Lions Drag Strip.

Spectators filled the drag strip to enjoy the exciting lineup of over 300 racers including 16+ Top Fuel Dragsters and over 37 Funny Cars. With vendors, a big swap meet, lots of good food, helicopter rides and 100’s of cool street rods in the “Grove”, there is a lot more to do aside from racing. The “Cacklefest” was spectacular. Over 60 front engined dragsters produced a sight and sound like no other. This event is a fan-tastic explosion of hot rods, nostalgia cars, racing, friends and drag racing legends. If you missed it this year, don’t miss the 20th.

Thanks for the Show!!

The pilot for the “Winged Express”, Mike Boyd spends some time with a little friend.

Mike Boyd and “The Wing” make a fabulous, action packed, burn-out. He starts out a little sideways, then lifts one wheel while he’s going 80mph at 400 foot, he then crosses into the other lane where he goes by Bradford on his right side at 60mph. After he backs up from his burn-out, he makes a 205mph pass!!
