highly decorated police officer, including a Police Purple Heart & Chief’s Star, who served several years on the Swat Team and Narcotics Squad. During that service, he was involved in many raids on methamphetamine labs where he is believed to have contracted his recently diagnosed and inoperable pancreatic cancer.
When he wasn’t protecting the public and raising his five children with his wife of 23 years, Rick Dukatz enjoyed working on his car but when the cancer began ravage his body, Detective Dukatz found he did not have the energy to see his dream to reality so he asked Customs & Classics to restore the body & paint of his beloved automobile hoping he could see his way through the rest of the car.
That’s when Chris and Kelley Purdum decided to dedicate efforts to assure this valiant police officer can see his car completely restored in the short time he has left. It is a job that would normally take 12 to 18 months and a considerable investment to complete.
A story on ABC4 TV news in Salt Lake City opened the door and offers of help from those with parts or expertise began coming in. But more is needed.
They are asking for corporate and individual donations of product and cash so they can meet their goal of debuting this car at the 2009 ISCA Championship Auto Shows World of Wheels AutoRama at the South Towne Exposition Center in Sandy, Utah March 27-29 2009.
They are hoping that along with parts suppliers & classic car lovers, Murray businesses, strongly support this effort because for his entire career Rick has been a Murray City Police Officer, protecting and serving that community. Kelley established a ‘copcar’ project site within ccrutah.com and included a sponsor page where corporate sponsors and large individual donations are featured. Sponsors will be featured on a sign board displayed at AutoRama and later may receive attention as the car will be used to bring awareness to Cops exposed to the dangerous and harmful chemicals used in Methamphetamine production as well as charities such as Make-a-Wish.
Checks made to ‘copcar’ can be mailed directly to Customs & Classics or taken to any Wells Fargo branch. Online donations can be made through PayPal on Customs & Classics website ccrutah.com
