The Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS) this year showcased an impressive assembly of show cars within the expansive Pomona Fairplex, with the outdoor car show area teeming with hundreds of hot rods throughout the weekend. Despite contending with intermittent rain, the spirits remained undampened, and the event drew record-breaking crowds to the various halls.
One standout highlight of the GNRS was the crowned winner of the 2024 America's Most Beautiful Roadster (AMBR) award – a meticulously crafted 1932 Ford 2-Door Tub by Brizio Myers.
The journey of this exceptional project commenced with a Brookville Roadsters' '32 Ford two-door Phaeton body. At Roy Rizio Street Rods, extensive bodywork unfolded, including narrowing the grille by 2 inches, the cowl by 1 ½ inches, and the cowl vent by 1 inch. The doors were shortened by 2 inches, rear quarters lengthened by 2 inches, and rear wheel wells raised and re-radiused by 4 inches. The body was channeled by 6 inches, and the windshield and top were expertly chopped by 3 inches. A custom-shaped rear body section resembling a two-door sedan, a custom rolled aluminum pan, and a distinctive custom hood further contributed to the transformation.
The body and paintwork reached a pinnacle of artistry under the skilled hands of Darryl Hollenbeck at his vintage Color Studio, complemented by Art Himsl's flames and Eric Reyes' pinstriping. Sid Chavers Upholstery added its touch to the interior, while Sherm's Custom Plating handled the brightwork, showcasing chrome and polishing expertise. The finishing touch came with Indy-style wheels sourced from E.T. Mags, now adorned with Coker-Excelsior rubber.
Powering this AMBR winner is a Roush 427 cubic-inch small-block Ford with an eight-stack EFI, seamlessly connected to a manual transmission. The chassis boasts a fully boxed set of Deuce 'rails, Moal torsion bar suspension, a Winters quick-change, a Bell 5-inch drop and drilled axle, and Johnson's Hot Rod Shop Kinmont-style brake package with Wilwood disc brakes beneath outer covers.
In conclusion, the 2024 GNRS crowned this '32 Ford two-door Phaeton as the America's Most Beautiful Roadster, extending heartfelt congratulations to Beth Myers for showcasing this remarkable masterpiece at the show.
