BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
I thought I would share my 32 Roadster with you.
|
From the first moment I laid eyes on him, I knew he was the one. He was everything I ever wanted… And more… And so was to start a great love story, the tail of the great passion between a woman and her Deuce hiboy roadster. And the many adventures that would follow… |

With his original 1932 frame, grill shell and gas tank, his old Guide headlights, his early 40’s original hub caps, his old red steelies, his Buick fine drums, his retro 50’s steering wheel, my roadster yells OLD SCHOOL loud and clear and it’s music to my ears.
The machine was driven over the years. Hard. It bears the scars of many road battles to prove it. Yet even as it stands today, with nicks and dents and in all its black primer glory, it still turns heads everywhere we go. My deuce may not be the most pristine deuce out there. And I might not be the most beautiful woman out there. But when my deuce and I hit the road together, it is certainly a sight to remember.
My deuce and I drove out to the Primer Nationals this year and returned with a first place trophy. Proving once again that it’s not about how perfect your car is, or how much money you paid for it, but rather how much raw faith you have in it. In the end, it’s all about heart and soul, and that, my deuce has plenty of.

I first saw my Hiboy on 08/13/06 (Lucky 13 !!). It was pretty much LOVE at first sight. I had been extensively and actively looking for one for about sixty days now (8 hours a day X 60 = 480 hours spent searching searching searching, browsing websites, screening adds, calling sellers, driving every day to look at cars and more cars! Staring at my computer screen and fine combing the internet till my eyes popped out of their sockets!) – and still nothing until HE came along!

After test driving the roadster and carefully checking it out, I decided to sleep on it…. But called the seller back the very next day and asked him to deliver the roadster to me and hand over the keys hehehehe.

He drove it out to a shop where we were able to put the roadster up on a rack and examine its underbelly :). Minutes later, the pink slip was handed over and I was to sit for the very first time in MY OWN 1932 Ford hiboy roadster.

My first drive was heavenly. I smiled so much and so long that my cheek muscles hurt the next day (I am not even kidding). I then stopped by some friends who also have a roadster and enticed them to join me on a first mini cruise.

Our First Event:
Toluca Lake, CA Bob’s Big Boys
You should have seen the look on people’s face as I pulled into Bob’s Big boys parking lot that Friday. It was pretty epic! I got big smiles & thumbs up! Everyone was real nice to me and I made many new friends that day. I was the only female hotrod owner there.

Second Event:
Hollywood Hotrod Car Show
Here is my little guy mingling with all the “BIG BOYS”. I was pleased to see he could hold his own. Once again the only woman there with a pre 1950 hot rod. Hiboy and I received many compliments and had a real good time! What a great way to spend my Birthday!

Third Event:
Flames, San Fernando Valley
Flames is the local hang out in the San Fernando valley. Every Friday, a bunch of classic cars and hot rods converge to the parking lot so their owners can talk cars, see cars, breathe cars, hear cars and eat cars… Ok, so maybe not eat cars, cause Flames’ BBQ ribs are actually TASTIER (if you can believe that!)
Tonight I have invited my friend Jaime to come along and cruise with me. It was her first time in a hot rod and what better way to get initiated then a topless 32 ROADSTER? She had such a blast! Jaime, usually so shy and subdued, instantly turned into a hot rod Mamma!! A HUGE smile on her face, she kept waving left and right at all the people who were waving, honking and smiling at us on the way there. :))
We had a good time and met many new helpful hotrod friends there. 10:30PM – Time to go home. “Bundle up!” was the moto as the night was actually rather cool (but nothing a “tough” roadster pilot can’t handle) ;).

Primer Nationals September 2-3, 2006
Hiboy and I decided to take a crack at a first car show and so we signed up for the Primer Nationals – What the heck, might as well aim high hehe.
I thought I might have a chance to place since there was a “girl owner” class. I figured there could not be that many girls there. WRONG! After I saw how many females showed up and how cool some of their rides were, I looked at Hiboy and said: “Buddy, we’ll be lucky if we get a third place!” No matter, we were there to have fun and learn. I spent the next two days checking out the many vendors, doing some shopping, both for me (hotrod Tank tops) and for Hiboy (a cool RPM gauge to replace his crappy current one). I also checked out all the cars there, and there were very, very many.
This was a huge national show so what a great way to get my feet wet! Turned out I was going to get a little more than just my feet!!!
After I was done shopping on Sunday I walked back to my car and found that the nice gal next to me had a great big red ribbon on her T-Bucket that read: 2d place. I looked at Hiboy and he had nothing. We looked at each other and shrugged: “Oh well, it was worth a try!”
“Congrats on your second place!” I told my neighbor (I was really happy for her, she is a great gal and a friend)
“I wonder who won First place?” – Her husband looks at me and smiles: “YOU DID!” I just about fell over. ????
What do you mean I did? but… There’s nothing on my car! “You got a little pink sticker on your headlight. That means you won 1st place in your class and you will get your trophy during the closing ceremony”
Pinch me! I must be dreaming!!! My very first hotrod, just got it, our first car show, a huge national show and WE WIN FIRST PLACE???
Must be beginner’s luck!! :)))

Harbor Run 16, Ventura, CA September 10, 2006
This car show, set against a ventura marina backdrop, was too tempting to pass. So I decided to participate and show off Hiboy a little.
Woke up before dawn and hit the road at sunrise. It was a magnificant sight to cherish forever: A glorious sun rising over the mountains while we cruised through endless fields of crops in Oxnard. The air was fresh, filled with the scent of grass, wet earth and herbs. You have never seen a sunrise until you see it while at the wheel of a 1932 roadster :). That was a nice treat.
A little less nice was the huge line of cars waiting to get through the gates of the car show. A little over 150 cars maybe more? And only one woman driver hehe (yours truly). We were somehow able to get a spot on the grass and enjoyed a sunny, yet cool day right on the marina. We didn’t come home with any trophies but did gather an impressive amount of compliments, which felt just as good. Oh, and I got to wear my new Lucky 13 retro vixen dress hehehehe…

I am 25 years Old (And Not A Day Older) :))
Well, I am a woman and we are allowed to lie shamelessly about our ages, no??
All right, all right; just between you and me… Well, lets just say I am not a Young Rodder any longer…
I hope you all enjoy the last of the pictures……
