| In my life I have owned and built a number of Street Rods but none have been more fun than building my little VW. This is my daily driver and I truly enjoy driving it. At almost 30 MPG vs. 10 MPG I get on some of my cars my VW is not only a kick to drive but it almost pays for itself… I have removed the back seat and installed speaker cabinets. No BUM BUM for me but I do like to hear the great sounds of the 50’s and 60’s as I drive to and from work. The front seats are from a 70’s BMW, for that low back look. The side and back windows have been removed and replaced with sheet metal. The driver and passenger wing windows have also been removed and replaced with single pain glass. A custom dash and console was also installed. The stock gage cluster that was on the old dash was moved to the console. A monitor is the only thing on the dash giving it a clean look. I use the monitor for my rear view mirror. The stereo is out of a 2005 Dodge that I bought off of EBay, DAMN I LOVE EBAY. I also installed a camera on the nose. This gives me a view when I’m pulling into a parking spot so I don’t smash up the front end. Oh did I tell you the front has been dropped almost 6″. All the switches for light wipers stereo and cameras where installed into a custom control panel located above the front window. And for you younger Rodders, no it’s not a mailbox. It’s not an air intake for the motor. It’s a 40’s air conditioner hanging off the right side. When all is said and done and I sell a car or two the little VW will be painted a bright red with vanilla ice cream interior… Well… “THAT’S MY STORY AND I’M STICKING TO IT”. |
