Bucky's Car
By noderel:
A 1933 Plymouth Coupe that was wheeled by Two Rivers,Wis. hot rodder Bucky Wagner in the '60s will be displayed at the second annual New Motorama show in Green Bay, Wis., on April 1 thru April 3.
Wagner's pink coupe was sponsored by Hein Plumbing and has that name lettered on it today, as well as its original No. 40. The car will be put on display in a vendor booth manned by author Joe Verdegan.
Verdegab recently penned a book titled Life In The Past Lane-a history of stock car racing in Northeast Wisconsin from 1950-1980. He will be autographing books at the show. A number of drivers featured in the book will also be on hand to sign autographs.
The No. 40 Plymouth Coupe is powered by an unusual racing engine - a '55 Dodge Flathead "straight six". The motor is attached to an equally rare Chrysler three-speed transmission. The story of how this coupe was obtained by Wagner decades after it was raced is an amazing tale, and one of many such adventures that Verdegan has chronicled in his book.
The coupe was purchased by former racer Gregg Hermann of Branch, Wis. in January of 2015. "I was after that car for years," said Hermann. "Bucky was approached by a museum in Western Wisconsin that wanted the car, but he sold it to me in order to keep his wish that the car remains in the northeast Wisconsin area where it was actually raced."
