A Celebration of Pinstriping
By noderel:
The Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum will be showcasing the talent of pin striping artist Jennifer Thomas in a new "Pinstriping & Automotive Art" exhibit that will run from March 11 thru May 31.
Thomas is known as "HotRod Jenn." She comes from generations of artists and gearheads. Thomas grew up with a talent for art and enjoyed spending time at classic car shows in New Jersey, where she was born.
In high school, Thomas combined her two passions and began focusing all of her art-drawings, paintings, and photography on subjects in the car world. She won the Congressional Art Competition with her pastel drawing of two classic cars, a 1942 Ford business coupe, and a 1937 Dodge. That inspired her to start showing more of her work.
In 2004, while on the car show circuit with her art, Thomas got her first can of 1 Shot, a special paint used for pin striping cars. Over the next few years, she learned and practiced pin stripe design. Thomas traveled to car shows around the east pin striping cars and doing custom pin stripe panels.
Thomas began incorporating motifs from the 1930s Art Deco period, traditional tattoo art and nature - into her designs. Thomas strives for symmetry, clean lines, and design flow in her work.
Today, Thomas is an internationally known artist. Her artwork has been featured on cars and motorcycles across the nation. It is also mounted on walls around the world. Her photography has appeared in magazines like Autoweek, Rodders Journal, Traditional Rod and Kulture, and Hemmings Muscle Machines.
Thomas resides in Hummelstown, Pa., with her husband, Jeremiah. She travels the country, attending pin striping and sign-painting workshops and participating in "panel jams" with fellow artists to raise money for various charities.
Pin striping fans will be able to join in a special March 12 program during which Tomas will demonstrate some of her pin striping techniques at no extra cost beyond museum admission. The demonstration will start at 2 p.m. in the museum's Regions & Chapters. Anyone planning to attend is asked to RSVP to arrange seating.
