This is my 1972 Javelin that I found in downtown Indianapolis, IN in May 2009. I drove past this AMX for 1 year until the tarp was blown off and I realized what was underneath. It was a rare AMX Javelin with a 360. The car was really rough in the quarters, rockers, windshield posts, rear windows... the normal cancer issues with Indiana cars. Ironically, there was absolutely no rust on the floorboards or trunk pan. The owner had bought the car 5 years earlier and parked it with the intent to rebuild. That time did not come. And after 2 months of knocking on his door every day at lunch, he sold the car to me.
Upon pick-up, we realized that the car ran and we drove it onto our trailer. The previous owner had good intentions because we got full Arizona Quarters with wheel wells, fenders, hood, interior, dash cluster, Posi rear end, and boxes of original parts. This is the one time that the previous owner realized he was not going to do something and allowed this car to go to someone who will actually do something with it.
I had the car back on the road in 6 months and have driven the car to and from work and all over Indianapolis putting nearly 500 miles on in the past few months. Finally, one car that did not get away!
This is how my Javelin sits as of now. The rockers and all the door jams, trunk, and firewall are painted Wave Blue... the future color of this car.
She will be completely painted by Spring.... I am looking forward to driving this car each and everyday, rain or shine.
