"Cars in Barns", Field cars and other "Treasure". Mike Kanalos spotted this beauty at a garage sale.
This summer I was cruising my way home from a friends house when I noticed a garage sale going on at a house that is normally closed up like Fort Knox. As I drove by the house I noticed the front end of a primered car sticking its nose out at me. As I walked up the driveway I knew immediately that it was a Forty Ford and as I got closer it was a coupe. Not to act overly excited, I looked around at all the junk first and then asked the big question, was the old car for sale. The woman said yes and told me the story that her grandfather bought the car new and that in the 1950's her father got the car and hot rodded it. She apologized for the poor condition. She also reported that her parents had both died recently and they needed to empty the house and garage.
She told me that her father parked the car in the garage in the 1960's when her parents bought the house new, that the forty had not moved out of that garage for close to 50 years. It had sat in darkness never to see sun again until 2010. As I looked the car over I could see that the car had some rust issues, but it was all there. The flat head engine was removed and a real 1957 Corvette engine with dual four barrels was between the fenders with a three speed manual transmission. In the trunk was one brand new Race Master slick, a white wall no less.
The next question to the women was how much. She reported that her brother had an appraisal done on the car and that they would not take a penny less then $2500 and that she had a good original Michigan title for the car. Since I have too many car projects going on today and no space to store the car I offered it to a friend of mine and he bought the car immediately.
I hope you enjoyed the story.
Thanks for listening.
