Pictures from Bob Brace The state of Ohio is a hotbed for rods and customs. Many well known shops are located in the state. There are also some very good not so well known shops as well. One of these shops is located in the small town of Mansfield, Thunder Road Rod and Custom. Pat and Zack who operate this shop are true blue gear heads. There are many examples of their work on chassis and frames that have graced the pages of many magazines. I actually came to know them before they decided to start Thunder Road. They both had been working at another shop building frame rails and chassis. That’s how I came to know these guys. I had been buying frame rails for my shop from the shop where they worked. As things go ,these guys started Thunder Road and again we are buying rails from these guys. The 32 Ford rails they make have the stamped reveals just like the originals. They offer rails that are already pinched for the Model A . The rails can be ordered in special lengths as well. The 32 rails are fully boxed. All holes behind the boxing plates have nuts welded in place. When we need special 32 rails these are the guys to contact. They have now added Model A frames to their product line. We have used their Model A frames and I recommend their product. They also do suspension updates, wiring and custom fabrication. When we stopped by they had a street rod they had installed a front suspension and were in the process of wiring the project. They had a special chassis being built for the truck cab in the photos. Check out the height locations of the front and rear suspensions. That project is being built for a very lucky young rodder. |
