Don Garlits and pals brought a clone of the 64 Swamp Rat VIII (the original car was cut and extended 2 feet to create SR X in 65). This is another car constructed expressly for cackling. Significance of SR VIII is that it was first Garlits car to use the new 426 Hemi engine. Close-up shots: T.C. Lemmons, Garlitss trusty old hand (l.), Garlits (r.) and Garlitss own trusty old hand (c.). T.C. has been with Garlits so long, he gets away with calling him The Old Man.

Lining up early, the Freight Train crew. Because of rains, Cacklefest format was modified. All but two of the machines were positioned on the strip centerline before their engines were started. At the signal, those with electric starters were fired in place. Moments later, the cars of Chris Karamesines and Don Garlits were pushed down the strip and made the starting line turn-around.

Showtime! Bob Langley was ready, the crew was ready, wife Ruth was ready, the Scorpion was ready, but it wasnt set up for an electric start, so it along with the Bo-Weevil roadster was a static display. But, Langleys and the cars presences were much appreciated. Don Ross is owner.
