If you've ever visited the Henry Ford Auto Museum, you've had the opportunity to see some of the finest examples of automotive artwork in the world. The downside to viewing a car in a museum as opposed to a show, of course, is the distance - you get to see all kinds of gorgeous paintwork and styling, but everything inside - the car's heart, if you will - is hidden. Fortunately, the Ford Museum is offering a chance to pop the hood with the Engines Exposed exhibit, running until Feb. 28 of this year.

The exhibit contains over 50 rare autos, all of which will have their engines on display. Many of these are iconic cars, with innovations which acted as vital precursors to the advanced auto features of today. The selection of vehicles includes:

  • 1965 Goldenrod Land Speed Record Car
  • 1919 Ford Model T
  • 1960 Chevrolet Corvair
  • 1933 Willys “Gasser” Drag Racer
  • 1963 Chrysler Turbine
  • 1949 Mercury Barris Custom
  • 1960 Meskowski Race Car
  • 1967 Ford Mark IV Le Mans Race Car

Guided tours are available if you'd like to hear about the history and impact of the vehicles on display. You'll even get to see one of the engines run!
