Description:
The first Chevy real big, big block, rebuilt to hold on to 409 horses while shifting those gears. And she’s red, in and out and all over. She’s very original with just a few modern touches, era correct and straight as an arrow. Vin provides a happy post Bel, factory tach reads the rotations plus the look; as though she’s just off the showroom floor.
Taken in on trade near three years back, she was brought to her current location of Creal Springs, IL from Tennessee. Our current Owner has place near 1,000 miles on her, even through Covid. He has performed various repairs and restorations bringing this classic Bel Air to near show quality. Many new parts, many restored items addressed and just a minor few modifications bring a beauty whose style is appreciated by so many as they are near timeless. This car indeed comes with a clear and clean title in our Owner’s name.
This Bel Air was transformed from an original blue car to red in 2018. Glass is reported as excellent. No overspray is noted, supporting the stated rotisserie restoration performed. Chrome and brightwork, so-so important to a 60’s Bel Air, is original and shows just a bit of age, noted as a positive 7 out of 10 rating. The stance is just classic; finishing with those thin, red-lined skins and factory hubcaps.
Red vinyl now has a slight modification with a velour seat insert on the upholstery. Tasteful, practical and really doesn’t detour from originality. Looking at those three pedals just gives the hot-rodder joy, then you move up to the new tachometer installed in that clean and sanitary dash assembly, finishing at the clean dash pad. The speedometer cable has recently been replaced and works fine, while the gas gauge is not working at this time Headliner to carpet, all is recent in its installation.
Ah, the magic of a big block when she fires to life. Reported to not be the numbers matching Q code, she is era correct in the castings, as reported by the Owner. Rebuilt last year, her specifications were designed around parts and fabs building a 409 cid/409 horse Big’n. She has been outfitted with a Holley carburetor atop the factory correct intake manifold. Backing is a T-10 four speed manual transmission, reported as likely the factory unit. New clutch assembly was installed with the new motor. She finishes with a GM Corp 12 bolt rear end. Factory drums stop her, all new bushing and bearings keep her straight.
A thorough and analytical review of this fine Bel was performed by a third party inspector. He was critical and reviewed both her cosmetics and her mechanicals. A few items were noted, the biggest challenge was her speedometer. This has been corrected by the Owner and he firmly estimates that less than 100 miles is missing on the odo. Interior dome light is not functioning. She is a grand driver, and as stated very near showroom quality.
She’s got the numbers: 409, 3 pedals and two doors. She’s got the look in hot rod sedan, red and riding right. And that all important sound: light up that ignition and let the throaty audible absorb in the background, for in the foreground we see big red doors, big red trunk and a big red Bowtie nose that is all Chevrolet.
