First Generation Camaros have always been favorites for both aficionados and regular muscle car fans alike, and high-impact cars like this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS (and yes, it's a real-deal RS verified with the trim tag) will always be popular. With a great-running 350ZZ4 V8, a quick-shifting Muncie 4-speed manual transmission, a comfortable deluxe interior, choice options, and a period-perfect color combination that we absolutely love, it's a dialed-in Camaro that's ready to impress.
When it came time to restore this gorgeous Camaro, the builders made a wise decision and left it wearing its original clothes: Code T Capri Cream with a black vinyl top. A refreshing change from the typical red and black resto's we see at every car show, it's the most subtle of the 15 total shades offered for the introductory Camaro but looks amazing stretched over this F-Body's smooth skin. For fans of the simplicity of the early Camaros, few colors could be better, and the professionals that laid it down obviously knew what they were doing, as there are no conspicuous demerits to speak of. It's a top-end, driver-quality example all the way, and the contrast of the blacked-out RS grille and fresh-looking black vinyl roof really gives this 1st gen off-the-charts curb appeal. The light shade really seems to emphasize the sheetmetal's curves; just look at the kick-up behind the doors and the sharp crease that runs the length of the body, neatly bisecting the doors and rear quarter. As a true RS-spec car it has the traditional hidden headlights up front and simple single-element taillight lenses out back (with reverse lights correctly installed under the rear bumper and inside the rear valance), not to mention the subdued yet sharp hood that's free of any inserts or stripes, and the requisite 'RS' emblems at the bookends let everyone know what time it is. Chrome is quite good throughout, including the front and rear bumpers, and according to the trim tag all the windows came tinted from the factory.
Complementing the cream paint perfectly, a Code 712 Gold Custom bench seats dressed in deluxe vinyl patterns greet you when you climb aboard, split by a the 4-speed manual shifter atop the transmission hump. Plush gold carpets and matching door panels complete the OEM look, and all of the soft stuff inside looks to have been recently replaced and remains in great shape. An original RS steering wheel will make you want to go out and by leather driving gloves to complete the sensational look, and just beyond it the dual-pods still carry what are likely the original gauges – further augmented with a trio AutoMeter auxiliary units under the dash and a matching tachometer strapped to the tilt steering column that all work together to keep an eye on the upgraded engine under the hood. That cue ball-topped shifter falls easily to hand while managing the Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission living underneath, and factory deluxe-spec seatbelts keep everyone in place. Entertainment comes courtesy of a JVC AM/FM/Cassette stereo that's been neatly installed in the center stack and seems to blend in with its surroundings, and the options list rounds out with R134a air conditioning, although the system will need a service before it blows cold again. The back seat looks almost new, which isn't usually a surprise in a Camaro this nice, and if you open the deck lid you'll find a spacious trunk dressed in a correct plaid mat and housing a correct space-saver tire and jack set.
Even though this Camaro was born with a V8 (a 350SS spec V8 according to the trim tag), the power was nonetheless upgraded with the addition of a 350ZZ4 V8 engine. Finished in corporate black engine enamel and topped with a set of finned valve covers and a chrome Chevrolet air cleaner that seem to always look right on a small block Chevy, it definitely has a performance vibe under the hood. Aluminum heads, a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, long-tub headers, and an aluminum intake manifold help build horsepower, and in the lightweight Camaro, that extra hit of torque is a real thrill every single time. There's also an HEI ignition and modern alternator for added spark, and a big aluminum radiator up front that keeps the whole show nice and cool. The aforementioned 4-speed gearbox feeds a heavy-duty 12-bolt rear end filled with 3.73 posi-traction gears, and an X-pipe dual exhaust system with throaty Flowmaster mufflers sounds downright nasty. Clean floors dusted in satin black look great, power steering and power front disc brakes improve the ride quality greatly, and the perfect stance is set atop a new set of American Racing Torque Thrust 'Old Style' wheels wrapped in Firestone FR70-15 redlines – all of which are brand new and finish off this Camaro's look perfectly.
