This one is for the true collectors. A 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 with a numbers-matching big block is already a tantalizing proposition, but have you checked out the paint? This is a highly original and very rare Carolina Blue special order coupe. It even comes with a history of long-term first-owner care.
Carolina Blue is quite a mythical color. It was a special order from the factory, and so the trim tag shows a dash for the paint code. Anyone could order it, but it seems that Tar Hill country ordered them by the handful. That's why this one was sold brand new only about 30 minutes from our dealership. It stayed with the first owner all through his life. The coupe was willed to a neighbor, but he was advanced in age and couldn't take care of it. And so when a car is rare and interesting, it often finds its way to us. With a low chain of ownership and good paperwork to document the low mileage, this car represents quite an impressive survivor. The special paint color is largely original, likely aside from a rocker and the trunk lid. And the soft glow of the finish is impressive for passing the half-century mark. The trim tag does indicate this was optioned with a black vinyl roof. It looks quite nice against the bright blue paint and goes well with the grille, rear, and full-length stripe of this Super Sport. A survivor car is not about perfection, so those who love them understand that any marks help tell the full story. Still, bright chrome bumpers, proper mag SS wheels, wide exhaust tips, and doors that close with confidence are all part of a package that shows good care for decades.
The factory-correct black is a muscle car favorite, and its presentation will make you feel like you stepped back in time. Once again, the details are terrific. So you'll love all the period-correct pieces, from the button-top upholstery to the dome light that greets you when the door opens. And we know the 8-track is still working with the AM/FM stereo because we have a case full of cartridges that goes with the sale. This was so highly optioned that it's even a factory air conditioning car (the compressor seems to kick on, but it will need servicing/conversion to blow cold again.) While there is plenty of room for family and friends, this Super Sport is fun even when going solo. Bucket seats, a center, console, horseshoe shifter, and the desirable rosewood three-spoke sports steering wheel are all there to remind you the driver is king.
Under the hood is the numbers-matching 396/402 cubic-inch V8. That kind of history makes muscle car fans weak in the knees, and so this one is ready to be displayed with the bold block, bright valve covers, and plenty of correct decals. Even the under-hood light still works on this well-respected classic! But preservation doesn't mean missing out on maintenance, including a newly rebuilt Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor. While the SS396 was no longer a VIN verified option in 1969, it's difficult to have the numbers-matching big block and not be a genuine Super Sport. That's especially true when you have one with such a known history as this coupe. And because you'll want to take this everywhere and tell its unique story, this coupe has power steering, power brakes, front discs, and the numbers-matching TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. The way it feels solid out on the road is another reminder of why long-term classics are so in-demand.
The sale includes documentation like the original warranty card, previous registrations, and the owner's manual. This is a dream SS396 for a true muscle car collector. Don't miss what could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Call now!
