"For the first time I now have a Corvette I can be proud to drive in Europe." - Zora Arkus-Duntov
In the quote above, the "Father of the Corvette" was referring to the "C2" in Corvette-speak. In its review of that Corvette, Car and Driver, detailed the car's most significant advancement beyond the comprehensive 1963 styling re-design: "The new all-independent suspension has completely transformed the Corvette in terms of traction and cornering power.... Cornering stability under conditions permitting minimal wheel deflections is remarkable, and an initial feeling of pleasant surprise rises to sheer astonishment when one discovers that the car can be taken off the predetermined line with ease and still complete the turn in perfect balance."
Offered here in original Ermine White over black leather, with both a white fabric soft top and a white removable hardtop top, is a fully restored '65 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible. Delivered new at Ken Smith Motors in Bucyrus, Ohio, this is a rare, original, fuel-injected example, one of the most desirable classic Corvettes ever produced. The car's original window sticker showing all optional equipment is included, with a photo presented in the gallery for reference. In 57 years, this car has traveled just 50,152 miles, or fewer than 900 miles per-year on average. Clearly, a loved and sparingly driven Corvette, the restoration presents the car in spectacular condition in every respect.
The exterior Ermine White paint retains factory gloss and smoothness. There is no damage anywhere on the body, and body-panel alignment is excellent. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The rotating headlights operate as they should. All factory badging-including cross-flags emblem on both the hood and rear-deck-mounted fuel filler cap, the "Corvette Sting Ray" rear emblem, and the front-fender, red-white-and-blue "fuel injection" emblem"-is present, properly located, and in pristine condition. In similar fashion, the chrome side mirror, windshield surround, door handles, bumpers, lower side trim, hood "louvers," and lower-front grille are all in beautiful condition. Windshield glass is clear and unblemished. Factory turbine-design wheel covers with faux knock-off caps are mounted with period-correct BFGoodrich® Silvertown 7.75x15 bias-ply, narrow whitewall tires.
The white exterior is perfectly contrasted by the black-leather upholstery. The characteristic twin-cowl dash, center stack, and visors feature the same material. Only light patina appropriate for the age of the car can be found on some surfaces (including the steering column, console, and some switchgear). The horizontally pleated leather seats are free of rips, significant wear, or any damage; only normal light creasing is present. Original black lap belts are mounted. The original Corvette-branded steering wheel, again with only very light patina, is in place. Instrument lenses are clear and indicator needles retain their color. The 160-mph speedometer, tachometer, and auxiliary gauges operate as they should. The bespoke, vertically mounted, factory AM-FM push-button Delco®-branded radio, analog clock, and four control knobs are in place in the center stack, while the four-speed shifter is located on the center console surrounded by metal trim bearing the shift pattern. Door trim-including the red side-warning lights and roll-up window cranks-is excellent. Original black looped carpeting covers the cabin floor and storage area behind the seats; some light fading is noted. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the excellent condition of the Corvette's interior surfaces.)
Under the front-hinged hood, the legendary 327 cubic-inch V8 is easily identified by its Corvette-script forged valve covers and crossed-flags emblem on the finned, and especially the fuel-injection system atop the manifold. The L84 was the most powerful 327 available for the 1965 Corvette thanks to its Ram-Jet Fuel Injection. All appropriate components are properly located in the clean and tidy engine bay; there are no modifications The car's undercarriage shows no damage to the dual exhaust system; the chassis is likewise clean and undamaged.
The car's original identification and information tags remain mounted. Both soft and hard tops, the original window sticker, owner literature, and protect-o-plate are included in the sale
