Description:
1955 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe Hardtop
Fir consignment, a 72,587 actual title verified mile all original car save for a factory matching respray in 2007. Yes this baby looks great and those "super scenic" front and rear glass, and "tailored steel". Throw in lots of shiny chrome and sleek low profile roofline and we have an uptown girl in the form of a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe ready to take in the town and take over your garage. Start spreading the news...
Exterior
A wide trimmed split front grille with another horizontal trim piece below and a nicely curved bumper framing the bottom with signal lights attached to the top of said bumper leads the way. A big cloisonné badge is on the small "beak" in the grille area flanked at the end of each front quarter panel with a wide chrome bezel single headlight. A nicely shaped bulbous, but overdone, hood makes its way to the wide trimmed curved front glass. The remainder of the passenger compartment glass is surrounded by thin trimmings. Canyon Tan, (Coral), paint covers all the lower steel panels, which are all rust free. The roof line is painted in Desert Tan, (Beige). On either side is an ever-widening trim spear in beautiful shiny chrome and a Desert Tan insert panel. A wide chromed badge that says Newport adorns the bottom of the b pillar. On the back, the big chrome theme continues with upper rear quarter trimmings that are basically chromed tail fins housing the cathedral style tail lights. Just below are oval backup lights and a thick shiny wrap around bumper with dual chrome tipped exhaust outlets peeking out below. Wide whites wrap pristine wire spoked wheels with center knock off hubs. Make no mistake, this car is very large... I guess we could call it Metropolitan in its air it puts off. One.... singular sensation...
Interior
Inside swinging near perfect doors which are covered with wide stitched and padded upper panels in cream leather, have a chrome strip delineation appliqué, and below shows us a beautifully sewn in darker tan rectangular tweed broadcloth panel in the center and a brown strip of carpeting on the bottom. A seamless armrest and shiny actuator lever and a window crank are also within this door panel. Inside warm cream vinyl bolsters and half backs frame a central rectangular darker tan tweed broadcloth inserts. For original seats these are amazingly well preserved. Upfront, a wonderfully sculpted undulating S curved dash front befitting of the Chrysler moniker houses all the gauges one needs to monitor while driving this automobile. Curved two tone Canyon Tan mixes with Desert Tan painted metal. Shiny bezels, a shifter in the dash and perfectly chromed knobs pepper this dash with all the essential switches and below a shiny chromed panel houses the ignition, ashtray, and a cowl vent slider. The factory AM radio is neatly installed and for the passenger a Desert Tan painted glove box covering door is curvaceous to the point of making Raquel Welch jealous, and sports some vertical opening for the speaker and a circular clock above. Thick pile mauve carpeting covers the floors and is the perfect landing spot for those wingtips so they will not have their spit shine marred! "The buck stops here!"
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a the original 331ci Hemi V8 engine fed on top by a single 4-barrel carburetor. On the back is a 2-speed Powerflite automatic transmission, and way back for the axle it has 3.36 gears. All is very nice under this hood. This engine bay is all original and very clean. Get my dinner plate and silverware I'm eating here tonite! "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!"
Undercarriage
All fully undercoated belly if you will ,shows nice and neatly just a light coating of surface rust peppering smaller areas. All else is black and structurally sound. Floor pans look patinaed and slight road dirt has accumulated. Power drum brakes are all around and for the front independent coil springs provide the ride. In back the task is left for the leaf springs. Take me to the end of Park Avenue, I have a bridge I want to sell you.
Drive-Ability
I slipped inside this preserved beauty and immediately I was awestruck as to how clean it really is. Hard to believe it's all original. So I fired it up and went for a ride and oh what a ride it was. I put some miles on this baby as I wanted to see and be seen. During my trip all worked wonderfully, functions, ride shifting and accelerating as well as bias free braking.
A really nice clean original example with just a respray and all else original. A Hemi, finely appointed interior, excellent exterior design, beautiful wrap around glass, chromed wire wheels and all I can say is NEW YORK....NEEEW YOOOOORK! da da dah dah da...
