Description:
As seen on John's Presentation YouTube Channel, this 1942 DeSoto Convertible Fifth Avenue Edition is for sale.
Production was cut short for the 1942 autos due to the war. Only 24771 DeSotos were produced that year. 11856 Deluxes (the less expensive model) of which, some records say 79 convertibles were supposed to have been produced. However, neither the DeSoto Division Historical Section (before it was merged with the Chrysler Corporation Historical Section) or the Chrysler Corporation Historical Section have been able to ascertain that these 79 Convertibles were ever produced. 12915 Customs were produced of which 489 were convertibles. The Fifth Avenue Edition was an ill-fated idea from the start. The idea was that if a buyer wanted to upgrade to a more elite car he could order the Fifth Avenue. Fifth Avenues were only produced at the factory. The purchaser would order the car from the dealer, the factory would add on Fifth Avenues options and ship the car to the dealer. This would take several weeks. Most buyers wanted their car now, not in several weeks. Historical records surmise that less than 50 Fifth Avenues were produced. This car is the only Convertible known to have been in the Fifth Avenue Edition.
This car is located in sunny, southern United States and can be shipped to anywhere in the world.
Buyer assumes all costs related to the transfer of the vehicle including transportation. Bank wire transfer only. Thank you.
