Description:
An all-steel 1929 Ford Model A roadster body on a 1932 chassis, finished in bright green with cream tuck-and-pleat upholstery, a louvered hood and polished five-spoke wheels. The car has a clean Massachusetts title identifying it as a 1929 Ford, model HOTROD, convertible. VIN/chassis number: T213973. Located in Allston, Massachusetts 02134.
Power comes from a Chevrolet 350 V8 with four-bolt mains, a mild upgraded camshaft, Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor, and Mallory electronic ignition. A Turbo 350 three-speed automatic with a mild shift kit sends power to a Halibrand Champ quick-change rear end with 3.73:1 gearing.
The heavy-duty Halibrand Champ quick-change is a key part of this build. Following an axle-retention problem, the rear end was removed and sent to Mitchell in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. The housing ends, outer-bearing arrangement and axle-retention system were modified to a Ford 9-inch-style configuration. Two replacement axles were made and all rear-end bearings were replaced during that work. The car retains the Halibrand Champ quick-change assembly; it was not swapped for a complete Ford 9-inch rear end.
Running gear includes replacement coilovers front and rear, a Flaming River Vega steering box installed around 2023–2024, Heim-joint tie-rod ends and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. The quick-change gear pair can be exchanged to alter the final-drive ratio.
Two particularly useful features are the quick-release wood-rim steering wheel and 22-gallon fuel tank. Inside are matching cream door panels, a compact center gauge cluster and a floor-mounted automatic shifter. A marine AM/FM/CD radio is concealed under the seat. A convertible top and tonneau cover accompany the car.
The car was repainted around 2016. Brian estimates 6,000–7,000 miles of his own driving, including a trip to Indianapolis; actual total mileage is unknown. The original builder and body manufacturer are not documented. A reference folder is available, but original build records are unavailable and repair receipts are limited.
CONDITION NOTES
The odometer displays 42,105 miles; actual total mileage is unknown. The speedometer is inoperative; its cable was cut after speedometer-drive and transmission-leak issues. Both front and rear tires are aged, and there is minor right-front kingpin play. There are paint chips near the entry area and slight deformation at the bottom of the installed grille. The right-front corner of the convertible top needs closer inspection for possible wear.
