Description:
1923 Ford Model T Cab & Chassis
Dateline 1915: Juan de la Cierva makes the first autogyro flight. Texas Tech University was founded as Texas Technological College in Lubbock, Texas. Firestone Tire and Rubber Company begins production of balloon-tires. Yankee Stadium, (1923), called Yankee Stadium, "The House that Babe Ruth or Ruth Built", opens. Captain Lowell Smith and Lieutenant John P. Richter performed the first mid-air refueling on De Havilland DH-4B, setting an endurance flight record of 37 hours. The German Rentenmark is introduced in Germany to counter hyperinflation in the Weimar Republic. The chimes of Big Ben are broadcast on radio for the first time by the BBC.
Prior to 1925 if you wanted a Ford Model T pickup truck you had to have one made or do it yourself as a factory pickup wasn't available. For consignment and gracing the outdoor car corral of our Hallowed Halls, a barn find Model T cab and chassis fresh from 1923. With its handmade wooden passenger compartment and little else, this one is prime for a customizer to work their magic touch with.

Exterior
All standard issue Model T from the firewall forward with simple and basic flowing fenders over the front wheels and down to running boards. A utilitarian wood constructed custom cab is on with a full wood door on the passenger side and a half door, non openable on the drivers. A 4 pane windshield with the upper able to tilt out leads the way for the driver and small rear window and ample side glass give the driver the necessary views of the scenery. Overall the wood is intact with a mix of black and red paint along with natural finish, but does have some rot to the wood. A black vinyl covering provides shelter from the elements and red finished but dry rot cracked wood spoke wheels with solid rubber tires keep things on the ground. Out back we are sans bed, giving the world a view of the factory Henry steel of the frame and suspension.
Interior
Swinging open the passenger's door and we are met with very little with the exception of a fat black steering wheel with timing and throttle controls sitting atop a slightly angled column. A basic Ford Ampere gauge to monitor on this dash and a simple ignition box is all that is needed. The majority of the flooring is either missing or dry rotted and will need replacing. We note the familiar 3 pedal arrangement on the floor along with the parking brake and an out of place shift lever growing upward from the floor to wrap up our interior tour.
Drivetrain
With the hood cowling missing it allows us to view the 177ci 4-cylinder mill. It is fed by a 1-barrel carburetor on the side and attached to the back is a 2-speed planetary transmission. A 3.63 geared rear axle puts the power to the ground.
Undercarriage
Solid steel makes up the frame and body hangers with a coating of surface rust covering nearly all components. Wooden floors for the cab are in need of replacing and transverse leaf springs provide the suspension front and rear and rear mechanical drum brakes are on.
A ready start to build a Model T your own way. A true piece of American automobile history all wrapped up in a simple package. Swing on by and pick up your next project and let your imagination run wild.\
