Description:
One family Owner since 1967, yes that’s 56 years, with the Son acquiring Mom’s ride in 2001. He took his driver’s exam in this beauty. She is very original and in good, but not concourse condition. Very original down to the AM radio. Some say time capsule, many say factory stock, really she’s just a classic beauty and ready to Pony up. True 64,000 miles, her originality and provenance is unquestionable.
Mom purchased her Pony just one year after its production in Fort Collins, CO in 1967. She remained a mile-higher for most all her life and the miles are original, as she was the grocery getter and sunny day cruiser. 2001 saw a transfer of tutelage as the Son now carries the responsibility of caring for this fine little Pony. And she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Cosmetically, the years show a bit as most everything is showroom original. Mechanically, rigid maintenance keeps her a top performer. Happily, she remains a classic beauty. She has a clear and clean title in our Owner’s name.
Originally, she was a light blue car. Mama likes red, so when the time came, in 1975, a full and detailed recoat was performed and remains as the only repaint on this classic. Sure, a little age is showing and one bubble spot is coming through, but the real value is how she’s handled the years with a near 50 year old paint job – outstanding! Chrome, brightwork and badging are complete and in very good condition. Convertible top is worn and showing its age, but she will hold the weather back and is noted as the original top to the car. Showroom stock down to those hubcaps, she’s an old beauty showing a bit of age, but proud to be a Pony.
Tan vinyl and posing those Pony seats, the upholstery is her factory issued original. Carpet was replaced in 1975 and it might need to be addressed again. She carries a factory console reported to be in great shape. Her factory AM radio remains in the unaltered dash and works grand. All gauges and accessories function properly. Yes, there is wear and a couple of tears, but this is an original, never refurbished interior.
Powered by her reported original 289 cid V8 she’s been maintained through the years with oem parts. 18 years back a new 3 speed automatic transmission was installed as was a complete brake rebuild. Factory original suspension components remain. Her performance is clean, pure and while not particularly fast, she’s described as precise and absolutely ready for cruises or road trips.
A thorough and exhaustive review of this Pony was performed by a third party inspector. Sure, items were discovered and noted, flaws were logged, but all in all she is in wonderful, original condition. Mechanically, she needs a tune-up or fuel system items addressed, as a hesitation was noted in her test drive. Note the typical items absent on this list; words like leaking, weeping or seeping. The only fluid challenge was the singular word ‘drop’. Simply outstanding.
Really, not much needs to be said about the car that started the Pony craze. They built a ton, because the demand was strong. They started a craze, because the style, size, and performance filled a need. They grew both in size and power, as value was added in making her fit. And today, they started it again, when the retro styling of the mid 2000’s car looks an awful lot like the first gen Mustang. And guess what, the other Ponies followed – you’re welcome.
