Description:
Blending the nostalgic vibe of its previous generations with modern comfort and safety features - in a package that also offers open air motoring excitement - this 2002 Ford Thunderbird convertible carries a great color and has logged only about 29,505 miles, so it has plenty of life left in it. It also comes with a clean history report to bear witness it's low-ownership and clean living, along with an eye-popping curb appeal unmatched by any 'modern classic' on the road today.
It's only fitting that its exterior color - Thunderbird blue - literally includes the model's name in it, as it's a great match for the car, with its silvery undertones that create an understated vibe. This T-Bird came out the very year Ford chose to revitalize the model after a seven-year hiatus and in doing so, they took a bold route that veered substantially from the previous generation and brought this venerable nameplate back to its roots with its two-seat configuration. You can see the homage to its vintage brethren pretty clearly - the front grille is nearly a mirror image of the one found on the '56 version and the shape of the hood scope is a pretty close match to that same era. The finish is still in great shape, with only minor signs of old car washes and very little evidence that it's spent much time on the road, which is indicative of the low-mileage. With its inclined front windshield and refined profile, it also incorporates more modern elements into the mix, cutting an impressive figure in both open air and "top up" configurations. When the latter is called for, this Ford offers a couple of options with both a color-match hardtop and black convertible top in tow. The black canvas convertible top raises into place in short order and folds neatly behind the seats, and the top still seals up nicely whenever called upon. For even more protection from the elements, as well as decreased wind noise, it also comes with an accessory hard top in a matching color that features porthole windows in back - a great nostalgic touch and a nod to previous generations.
The 'modern classic' Thunderbird, though not a large car, is more substantially sized than your average two-seater, and the interior reflects that, as there is plenty of shoulder and leg room to insure both driver and passenger are comfortable. There's quite a list of comfort features on board here, too, including power seats, a tilting and telescoping steering column, power windows/locks, and air conditioning that's still in good form to keep you and your passenger comfortable. You'll also find an AM/FM/CD player sitting front and center in the dash to provide all the audio options you'll want when you hit the road. The gorgeous two-tone bucket seats have retained their shape well and are supremely comfortable and supportive, with only minor signs of wear in the higher-traffic areas like the driver's side bolsters and steering wheel. But like the exterior, we're really picking at straws here, this T-Bird is the very definition of 'lightly used'. The trunk area in back has an appreciable amount of space and is in fantastic order, with no stains or tears on its original lining.
The 3.9-liter DOHC V8 you'll find under the hood provides 252 horsepower - plenty to propel this two-seater. Combined with a 5-speed automatic overdrive transmission, it makes for a drivetrain that attains a nice balance of performance and practicality, with respectable fuel economy that will come in handy for frequent travels. Being so lightly used, the drivetrain is still at the top of its game, and precise power steering combines with 4-wheel power disc brakes to make this drop top a joy to drive. This unique blending of vintage and modern automotive sensibilities rides on a set of 17" cast aluminum wheels wrapped with 235/50/17 performance radials.
