This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL has all the best features you want in a two-seater Benz, like the fuel-injected V8, four-wheel disc brakes, overdrive transmission, and both tops. But this one also has something more. The records on this car show that it's believed to always be a southern car and that it has spent 25 years under the same owner. And you'll understand the difference when you look over this SL. It's clean, complete, and quite well preserved...it even comes with its original window sticker. It all makes for an impressive classic at an affordable price.
The R107 version of the Mercedes SL just seemed to always be built to a higher standard, and over four decades later, this one is proving that it was. After all, the pictures prove this has the clean lines and good form of an upper-class classic. There's a lot of originality all around the car. You'll see it everywhere from the baroque alloys to the odometer that's believed to reflect the full mileage. The paint is believed to be the factory application, and the metallic in the gray still knows how to pop in the sunlight. There's always a detail or two you can find with a classic, and so you may want to get a newer convertible top canvas on this one. But the way a car like this really impresses is the level of overall care it shows. You see it in the way the color-matched hardtop fits, the bright bumpers with clean black rubber inserts, and the overall panel fit of a well-built Benz.
The golden pinstripe on the outside goes quite nicely with the golden Palomino tan interior. So while it comes with both a soft top and a hardtop, you know it really just wants to be open to the world. Leather seats, good carpeting, a grippy stock steering wheel, and crisp VDO gauges make for a good cruiser. Some items show wear because it's all suspected of being original. So you can enjoy the true vintage nature or there's also a plentiful aftermarket for updating (these always did look nice with sheepskin seat covers.) It's loaded with amenities like power windows and cruise control. Some features like the Becker Grand Prix radio and the automatic climate control will need restoration to function again, but it's nice to have the full stock style still there for a display. In fact, everything from the glossy wood trim to the first aid kit is still present. The overall impression is that it makes for an easy to enjoy true classic from day one.
The 3.8-liter SOHC V8 under the hood has one of the cleanest presentations we've seen in quite some time. So it makes it easy to spot nice maintenance items, like the newer distributor. The fuel-injected motor fires up with the eagerness of a well-built premium German car. So this powerhouse knows how to uphold the Mercedes reputation of sturdy luxury cruisers. This car also earns its status with great driving features like a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, a well-balanced fully independent suspension, power steering, new tires, and four-wheel power disc brakes.
The sale comes complete with the original window sticker and the owner's manual packet. This is a true classic luxury cruiser that continues to have the solid feel you want in a great driving classic. So if you're looking for a convertible you can really enjoy, call today!
