Description:
1994 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Coupe
For consignment, a 1994 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am coupe with a title verified 51,747 actual miles, newer tires on aftermarket wheels, and a monochromatic coat of Arctic White paint.
Exterior
A jet-fighter like pointed noses is the trademark of Trans Ams in this era, bolstered by deeply set fog lights that almost appear as intake tunnels and hood mounted vents terminate at the bottom of sculpted coves in the hood. The profile also screams aircraft with a forward canted B-pillar that gives way to a round rear window complete the canopy and a wing like spoiler that sends wind behind the car and at speed, is intended to keep the tail planted. Sport mirrors fit in the corner of a steeply raked front windshield and 17-inch 5 spoke black wheels contrast well with the white paint that covers the car uninterrupted, and wear tires with a late 2021 and late 2022 date code. A Trans Am would not be a Trans Am with the light bar in back, this one grated with black panes and hovering over the rear valance which makes room for twin dual tailpipes at each side. Overall, the paint and body are in great shape, and we could not find any imperfections except for the nose being a slightly different shade of white.
Interior
The attractive interior starts with tan door panels framed in vinyl and plastic with a cloth insert and charcoal hardware. About eight out of ten F-bodies come to us with a fully black interior, so this is a welcome change! Cloth sport buckets seats with Pontiac's distinctive accordion cushioning are covered in velour like tan cloth in great shape and providing robust bolstering. The rear section of the car houses perfect 2+2 seats and sidewalls that may have never hosted a human. An ergonomic steering wheel puts radio controls at your thumbs which otherwise wrap around the contoured wheel in comfort. Ahead of it, a simple gauge cluster on a single panel behind plexiglass, and providing all pertinent information in analog configuration. In the center stack, that new radio for '94 and by now familiar gray buttons over the basic A/C controls. The center console, like the dash pad, is contrasting charcoal and houses the T-shaped shifter in a clean base while low pile tan carpet fills the floor under a formed foam, cloth covered tan headliner, all in great shape.
Drivetrain
A relatively clean engine bay in this pampered poncho where we find the 5.7 liter LT1 V8, fuel injected and rated at 275 horsepower. It's backed by a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the 10 bolt rear axle with 3.42 gears. Naturally, for a sports car of this caliber, power disc brakes are found front and rear.
Undercarriage
Driver quality underneath with plenty of surface rust to go round found in the usual spots. Exhaust, fuel lines, and of course, the driveshaft stick close to the center tunnel leaving the sides relatively flat and aerodynamic. That exhaust is a single pipe that enters a stock style muffler which dumps two tailpipes that end with twin tips. Suspension consists of coil springs in front and torque arm with coil springs in back. We note a drop of oil on the rear diff, but all front pans are bone dry.
Drive-Ability
1994 marked the 25th year for the Trans Am and in all that time, they never ceased to be fun. The somewhat laid back driving position and ergonomic interior has a race car feel and that's aided by the powerful LT1 under the hood, providing a blast of fun that is complemented by astounding handling, good braking, and fine visibility. All functions worked as they should on our short circle around the test loop. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Dressed in white, this car is good, clean fun and carries on the Trans Am tradition of being a super road car quick city blasts or long highway hauls. Its fresh tan interior and shiny black wheels are icing on the cake for this vanilla speedster. If you're looking to get into an LT1 powered T/A, or perhaps back into one, put this one on your list for Firebird follow up.
