Description:
You want respect on the streets? Drive this slick 1965 Shelby Cobra Factory Five Replica. EVERYONE knows they're fast, and this one is no different, with its 302 cubic inch V8 powerplant, quick-shifting 5-speed gearbox, gorgeous silver-bullet bodywork, and sticky modern rubber wrapped around vintage-spec wheels. Why waste time building your own when this low-mileage beauty (2875 miles since the build, in fact) is available right now, for cheaper? The only thing faster than this timeless roadster is the speed in which it will sell, so you better read quickly...

Factory Five Cobra Replicas are by far the most common examples out on the road today, and for many good reasons. These experts from Massachusetts have mastered the process of producing top-quality recreations, and they provide high-end parts, schematics, and an industry leading design with their excellent Mark IV. These roadsters have time-and-again proven to be the best all-around Shelby Cobra Replicas money can buy, and their long experience has only refined their expertise, not diluted it. Ask anyone in the know what "kit" to go with, and you'll hear the FFR name pretty quickly. With just 2,875 miles since it was completed, this particular 1965 replica is still in tip-top shape, so nice that we were actually surprised it had been driven at all. It's about as "like new" as you'll find, especially at this price point, with only the most minor imperfections to speak of – although if we're honest, we didn't find anything to complain about aside from a couple of minute nit-picks. How nice is it? Well, that slick silver paint shines like it belongs on a six-figure original, not a fiberglass tribute and the bodywork captures the musclebound stance of the Cobra almost perfectly. The silver paint also makes it easy to forget it's not made of aluminum and black racing stripes keep it from looking naked, as any un-striped Cobra does. Authentic details like the fender vents, hood scoop, and Halibrand-style knock-off wheels are there just in case anyone needs any reminders as to what kind of car this is, and the cackling side pipes just make it look butch. There's not a ton of chrome, but you do get sparkling jack posts fore and aft, shiny dual roll bars behind the seats, and a giant racing gas cap that might be the coolest part on the entire build. Prep work was expertly done, leading to a car that fits together very well and attracts maximum attention out on the road.

The simple, yet very sporty, interior is finished exactly how every Cobra should be done. Low-back bucket seats with good bolstering and a cool vintage shape mean that this car is actually quite comfortable, and the industrial-strength race vibe is present in mass quantities. A wood-rimmed steering wheel on a short column makes it quite a bit more accommodating inside, and the vinyl-wrapped instrument panel filled with handsome, black-faced Factory Five Racing gauges and a host of fighter-jet style switches is perfect for the lightweight sports car. You can forget radio and A/C, and if you need those things in your Cobra, well, perhaps you should stick to your Camry instead, because the side pipes provide all the surround-sound stereo you'll ever need. A forward-canted shifter with an 8-ball knob manages the 5-speed gearbox below, and a purpose-built control panel was installed just ahead of it to help organize the car's accessories. Wind wings are actually a rather useful feature for open-air motoring at speed, and this Cobra includes a decent-sized and usefully-shaped trunk, too, fully finished in black carpets to match the cabin.

A stout 302 cubic inch Windsor V8 fits under the forward-tilting hood rather nicely, and with the lightweight small block up front, performance and handling are razor-sharp. With aluminum heads, a big Holley Brawler 4-barrel carburetor, a SpeedMaster high-rise aluminum intake manifold, and BBK ceramic-coated headers at the flanks, it grunts out big horsepower at the crank, rivaling an original 427 without the added mass. As you'd expect, it cranks with ease and is scary fast, yet happy to idle in traffic thanks to a serpentine belt system mounted with aluminum brackets, steel-braided hoses, an MSD ignition, and oversized radiator complete with an electric fan that keeps the temperatures at bay. The engine bay certainly looks slick with Ford Racing valve covers and a correct Cobra oval air cleaner that simulates dual quads underneath. The front suspension is comprised of tubular A-arms, rack-and-pinion steering, and coilovers, while the stout 10-bolt rear end hangs on a modified trailing arm suspension set right with additional coilovers, and there are disc brakes at all four corners. Those aforementioned side pipes are ceramic-coated for lasting good looks, and the wheels may look like vintage Halibrands, they're newer 17-inchers wearing 245/45/17 front and 315/35/17 rear Nitto performance radials.
