      <description>1969 Austin-Healey Sprite MKIV Convertible

For consignment, a 1969 Austin-Healey MKIV Sprite convertible.  It has a title verified 55,181 actual miles and was lovingly adored by the owner who bought it in honor of his mother who owned one when he was young.  It required the owner to learn how to drive a stick shift and this special car is now available for the next caretaker, awaiting new stories to tell.

  Exterior
Everyone knows they're cute and this little Sprite provides even more whimsy with its coat of Sunshine Yellow.  The smiling face begins with a grinning egg crate grille behind a pair of yellow rally lights, and capped with the Austin-Healey winged logo.  Rock guards protect the round headlights, while amber marking lights sit below and on the fender for side visibility.  A luggage rack on the trunk lid provides some extra storage on a car with limited available space and the elongated tail lights occupy most of the rear fender, while reverse lights are inset on the rear fascia.  Twin chrome exhaust tips protrude from under the car and provide a race inspired view for those behind.  That's also the case with the roll bar which rises high above the seats and instills confidence in turns just in case the 13-inch wheels with 155/80R13 tires break loose with some spirited driving.  Those black wheels have Austin-Healey engraved dog dish hubcaps and silver rims and despite the myriad of aftermarket wheels Austin owners might use, we like the stock look of the 'dogs.  Imperfections are few but include some minor rust around bottom edges, more significant where the black filler coats the rear fender bottom, a few paint chips here and there, and an occasional touch up.

  Interior
Clever door panels place the actuator towards the back of the door allowing passengers to reach over their shoulder to open the door and requires less hardware in the door to reach the latch.  The black vinyl panels are in great shape and have a hinged front quarter window above.  Black vinyl also covers the bucket seats with patterned inserts and added headrests.  The rear deck is carpeted and houses a couple of speakers and the crossmembers of the roll bar.  Straight ahead a banjo style steering wheel greets the driver and is emblazoned with the Austin-Healey crest in the middle, a combination of the Lord Austin family crest and the Austin or "noble" Coat of Arms.  A 4 gauge pod is presented to the driver with the ever important tachometer and speedometer, the larger of the four.  An original BMC AM radio is in the center just behind the floor mounted shifter and its yellow #1 billiard ball shift knob.  Low pile black carpet completes the interior tour and we would categorize the interior as one that shows the cars has been driven and enjoyed and is entirely presentable.

  Drivetrain
Driver condition under the hood as well where we find the 1275cc inline 4 cylinder engine rated at 62 horsepower.  The bay, as well as the trunk, show some surface rust, pitted in some areas and ripe for encapsulation and paint.  Meanwhile, the engine is fed by SU HS2 1 barrel carburetors and put into motion via a 4-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels and 4.22 gears.  Disc brakes are found in the front and rums in the rear.

  Undercarriage
The monocoque construction of the car results in some flat belly pans with the single exhaust running below them, straight back and entering a glasspack style muffler before passing the bumper with the twin tips.  Coil springs are up front and leaf springs are out back.  There are areas of surface rust, not unexpected and a few drops of oil on the oil pan, but generally clean and dry underneath and ready to hit the streets!

  Drive-Ability
And hit the streets we did, or at least our short test loop where the little yellow roadster buzzed along, wringing out the 62 horsepower which feels adequate on a car that weighs around 1,500 pounds.  What it lacks in overall power, it makes up for in fun and driving enjoyment.  It's nimble, eager, and basically an overgrown go kart.  The only thing that didn't work on the car was the heater blower.

Whether you have a collection, or a collection of one, a small British roadster has to be on your shopping list.  Sprites and Austin-Healeys in general, have an enthusiastic following and clubs all over the country and one can only imagine the good times ahead with a group of fellow owners and events.  You don't have to socialize to own this car but be prepared to make friends wherever you go!

      <title>1966 Austin Healey Sprite</title>
      <link>https://hotrodhotline.com/forsale/vehicles/austin_healey/sprite/1966/listing/211807</link>
      <description>1966 Austin Healey Sprite Convertible

For consignment, a 1966 version of the Austin Healey Sprite.  As you can see visually it is the very close cousin of the MG midget.  This Sprite has been worked a bit with some improvements including the addition of a roll bar, new leaf springs, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, hoses and lines, stainless exhaust new water pump, finned aluminum valve cover, Vredestein tires, a larger than stock engine, powder coated wheels and it will come with come new carpet ready for installation.

  Exterior
This mini me version has shiny Colonial White paint on it's all steel exterior.  It presents with little to no rust with slight bubbles on some of the lowers particularly aft of the rear wheel wells.  Some metal caulk can be seen on the seams between the firewall pillars and the hood and door seams.  This small sports car has nice lines with rounded front fenders topped with a single circular chrome bezel headlight and a gracefully curving hood between these with a simple horizontal grille in front.  A chrome edged windscreen protects the passenger compartment, and the cars doors are minding their gaps in fair form.  The back of the car has rounded over rear quarter tops and angled rearward edges where the tail lights are housed.  Bumpers for the front and rear are shiny with no rust and are in dimple free condition.  A roll bar is noted. Cream colored steel slotted wheels, which have been powder coated, are wrapped with 165HR13 Vredestein tires.  The wheels have a central chrome flat moon cap.

  Interior
Moving inside, the door panels are covered in black smooth padded vinyl and have some chromed cranks, an inserted actuator and a chrome framed central inset panel, also black vinyl.  Low back bomber style buckets are the dual seats under the shadow of the roll bar.  The central hump rolls through the buckets and hoses the shift lever.  The dash configuration shows an oval panel behind the steering wheel and this panel has 2 larger circular gauges on either edge, a speedo and a tach.  The central dash houses a few other circular smaller gauges and a few extra pulls and buttons.  Black carpeting floods the floors and appears in good condition with just a few wrinkles.  Behind the bomber buckets is a black carpeted storage area, which is under the roll bar.

  Drivetrain
Under the bonnet sits a very nicely restored 1275cc inline 4 cylinder engine.  It has a new painted green block, new yellow spark wiring, and a cast polished aluminum ribbed valve covering.  Two Su carburetors, (HS2's), are on the side and an original 4-speed manual transmission is on back. The rear axle weighs in at 4.22 ratio.  The engine bay is white and appears to have been sprayed with a rattle can.  We note the electrics are like new and a new water pump and reconditioned radiator are seen in front.

  Undercarriage
Nicely preserved and rust free, we can see a new stainless steel exhaust which takes spent gasses from the Jethot coated header now on the engine.  The axles and suspension appear to have been recently painted black and the floorpans show some patina but no rust.  The underside of the engine has slight blowback but it  appears to be currently drip free, so it may have been from a pre-upgrade situation which caused this.  For the suspension, in are front independent coil springs and for the rear leaf springs.  Braking is front disc and rear drums.  All new brake lines and hoses have been put in.

  Drive-Ability
The car started right up and off to the test track I went for a cracking good time.  Bias free panic stopping, (usually the first thing I check!), and good smooth acceleration from the twin Su's was noted.  Handling was snappy and the car drives very smoothly. I noticed the tachometer was a bit jumpy but all other functions were working at the time of the drive.

A nice example, with some extra upgrades recently performed and now you can snag a great example from 1966 but it does not look that old.  A snappy little sports car that will be a performer and certainly win at a very economical level.  Have a tool and you'll be convinced too!

      <title>1967 Austin Healey Sprite</title>
      <link>https://hotrodhotline.com/forsale/vehicles/austin_healey/sprite/1967/listing/211240</link>
<description>1967 Austin Healey Sprite MKIV Convertible

For consignment, we have a race ready 1967 Austin Healy Mark IV convertible.  This car would have started out as a pedestrian sports car with Austin Healey Sprites having a history of being built by and co-marketed as MG Midgets, (think; Ford Taurus – Mercury Sable).  True to some sports car definitions, they were two-seat automobiles with emphasis on dynamic performance and handling.  Other definitions dictate that true sports cars are roadsters, (convertibles or open air), and this little Sprite would fit the bill.  Lots has been done to this little car to make it a substantial track car while retaining its street legality!

  Exterior
Originally a California car, first prepared for racing in 2011, this car's striking appearance leaves no doubt it wants to get up and go.  Hunkered down on 13-inch Minilite aluminum wheels, the blue...a sort of electric or rally blue...looks great on the car, accentuated by a large "247" number decal on each door.  FP appears on the passenger side front fender denoting the car is raced in the Production class of SCCA – modified but retaining original design and structure.  No mistaking that here as the headlight, taillights and marking lights are in place and functional...part of the "street legal" requirements.  Hood pins secure the hood while a beefy roll cage sits tall over the seats.  The trunk retains its twist latch and "Sprite" emblem.  References to Suixtil, an Argentinian race accessory company, can be found on a left fender decal and decal on the trunk lid.  We should note there is a scratch in the paint near the right rear taillight and the inner lip of the trunk lid show evidence of invasive rust and that probably wasn't an intentional weight reducing measure.  A nifty chrome sport side mirror provides views of pursuing competitors to the left.

  Interior
Red Sparco racing seats dominate the interior and accommodate the 5-point racing harness.  A removable Sparco steering wheel is present, in front the machined metal dash panel.  Gauges are at a minimum here - just enough for racing; speed, tach, water temp and oil pressure.  A bank of electric toggle switches and fuses complete the amenities.  The pedals are bare bones and small and the shifter is a sculpted piece of billet that provides great grip.  A fire extinguisher is bolted to the transmission hump.  The rest of the interior is sparse as race cars tend to be.  No radio, no sound-deadening, no door cards.  The roll cage provides side support and the doors are fixed but low enough to practically walk over.  You're at one with the road and you wouldn't want distractions like opening doors to ruin the experience.

  Drivetrain
The rebuilt in 2011 1275cc 4 cylinder engine is fed by dual 1-barrel carbs and lit by an electronic ignition distributor.  A four-speed manual sends the power to a limited slip differential and 4.55 gears.  Stopping comes by way of a recently upgraded dual circuit brake system, new Kevlar front brake pads and new shoe pads on the back drums.  A new battery and smaller race-style alternator were added in the summer of 2021.  Wires and hoses are newer as is the aluminum radiator.  Gas is pumped from an 8-gallon racing fuel cell in the trunk using an electric fuel pump.

UndercarriageThe sparsity continues in the flat-bottomed undercarriage, but we can confirm the Evo adjustable shocks and rear leaf springs.  A header terminates at a glasspack style muffle via a straight pipe; we noted surface rust on the length of the exhaust.  True to its British roots, we notice some seepage on the oil pan.  A bright yellow tow hook is connected to the frame in front.

  Drive-ability
It doesn't take much power to make small cars feel super fast, and this one is no exception.  The suspension and racing wheels keep this car planted around turns and the open-air driving is about as close to street legal go-kart as you'll find.  Shifts are short and crisp and braking is spot on and this little blue rocket eagerly takes to our test loop with flying colors.  It's light, tight and just right!

A Sprite can be defined as small, playful, and having magical powers and this little car is both spritely and spry.  A toss-able little track car that can be driven to shows and convenience stores just as readily.  This car already has some vintage racing provenance – at both Lime Rock and White Mountain.  If you look at its happy face, it is clearly saying, "C'mon....let's go!"  Well, who will answer the call?
