Here is a true classic that has great lines and a price that makes it attractive to any buyer. Our 1948 Ford Super Deluxe Convertible runs as well as it looks making it a great candidate for a weekend driver and local car show car. This Super Deluxe perfectly captures the essence of post war optimism and is finished in an older Yellow lacquer paint job that is aging but still shows well. The chrome and brightwork are in good condition and the steel wheels wrapped in whitewall tires to give it a very classy look. The car does feature a power convertible top that is currently inoperable, but can be raised and lowered manually.  Under the hood lies an original style 221 CID Flathead V8 engine mated to a 3-speed column shift manual transmission. Nice and simple, just the way it should be. Turn the key and hit the button and that Flathead comes to life with its signature crackle out of the exhaust. No computers, sensors, or high tech electronics. This thing will still be running when the world ends! The interior shows well and is finished in brown leather. A Nova subframe and Carson top make the list of customizations that make this car an instant stand out.  Exterior Almost shooting brake in its profile, this long car has an aggressive rake helped by staggered size tires on 14-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels and those tires enjoy a date code of mid 2021. It's impossible to miss the black canvas Carson top which looks like it could retract, but does not, however it does make for a unique presentation over the narrow windows. A trim piece breaks up the Tordo Red paint on the long panels, but the door handles have been shaved and the rocker panel color keyed to create a flowing body. It's a whale of a tail out back with a huge decklid flanked by Corvette style tail lights while up front, the frenched headlights bookend a modest, clean grille and black bumper. The paint and metal work is very nice with only some separation and crack in a lower panel corner.  Interior Smartly designed tan door vinyl door panels include electric windows and a cloth insert that connects visually with the split bench seat up front and all appears in nice shape with a rear bench that has ample leg room and smooth sidewalls. Up front, things are color coordinated with the body, including the 3 spoke steering wheel and complete dash housing the billet faced gauge cluster with VDO units. Under the clean panels of the dash expanse is an AM/FM/CD radio with AUX/USB/Bluetooth. A United Pacific style traffic light viewer is on top of the dash, showing some cracking but likely still functional and helpful in a car with narrow windshield. Tan carpet covers the floor and footwells nicely and the black headliner is clean and fully intact. The big trunk is uniformly black and also clean. Drivetrain Under the hood, a clean 350ci V8 with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor over and Edelbrock intake. It is mated to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to a Ford 8" rear with 3.08 gears.  Undercarriage We find an X-frame and generally clean components underneath and also a good amount of swiss cheese on the inner rocker panels. Beyond that, very little surface rust and no errant fluids. Dual exhaust flows through Smithy mufflers, exiting via chrome tips behind the rear bumper. Power disc brakes are up front with power drums in back and suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in back.  Drive-Ability The trusty 350 comes to life and provides a sweet exhaust note from tail pipes that are about a block away. Meanwhile, the engine provides good power but the brake pedal has excessive travel and the car then surprises us with an abrupt stop. Beyond that, all functions in this good looking Ford operate as intended and we cruise this red runner back to the mall to find a spot under the lights. Yes, baby's got back, and it's a wall of Alabaster flanked by two modest tail lights, now LED equipped.  Wide, articulated fenders loom over 15-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels with staggered size tires that result in a slightly raked stance.  Imperfections include some bubbling on a taillight housing, corner issues near the door hinges, cracked paint in seams, various minor scratches, and some gaps and fitment that is less than perfect.  Interior Tan tweed door panels are framed in with a taupe painted header and a taupe carpet lower, while the attached hardware is painted to match.  The material continues on the power front bucket seats, borrowed from a Chrysler, high backed and modern, and the rear has a matching bench seat that fits perfectly and includes a center armrest, all looking clean.  A tilt column holds a 4 spoke steering wheel in front of a Bitchin' Products custom dashboard which places all of the gauges in a row towards the center of the simple, flat dash.  A JVS AM/FM/CD radio is embedded on the far right over some tweed covered panel doors that cleverly cover some knobs.  A floor mounted Hurst shifter rises above a rubber accordion boot over tan low pile carpeted mats that are in great shape.  So are the headliner and visors which create a dome over the contoured and tinted windows.  The trunk is completely upholstered and wears a Ford insignia.  Drivetrain Lift the big hood to reveal a slightly blinged driver quality engine bay with a 390ci V8 topped by a Holley 750cfm 4-barrel over a Holley intake manifold between a pair of chrome valve covers.  An old school B&M intake scoop envelopes the air filter and is a polished piece that adds more shine.  A Toploader 4-speed manual transmission is behind the engine sending power to the Ford 9" rear and 3.22 gears.  Disc brakes are found behind all four wheels.  Undercarriage Basic and unremarkable underneath but generally clean and driver quality.  We note some oil under the engine including oil pan, flywheel cover, transmission, and transmission crossmember.  No surface rust of any significance exists underneath, and wheel components lack any major grease build up.  The dual exhaust flows back to a pair of glasspack style mufflers and then exits through steel pipes in the back.  Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back.     Drive-Ability This cozy cocoon provides a clean and comfortable perch and with a little prime of the Holley with our right foot, we press the clutch with our left, start the engine, and put it in gear.  She sounds great and offers good visibility, save for the C-pillar blind spot due to the small rear window.  The car has good power, adequate braking, and decent handling.  Everything that needs to function does and we can't wait to get this one a new caretaker!  Here's a car with enough room to take the kids and their karate equipment to class, and enough classic lines and show worthy specialness to take it to cruise night, Cars and Coffee, and other places where car people gather.  Maybe you'll even garner a few trophies that you put next to your karate tournament trophies!  In any event, it's a well sorted '48 in a fine color, comfortable interior, and capable drivetrain.  Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (that's more than 8 acres!).
