1968 Oldsmobile 442 coupe. This is NOT a project car. Like any 55 year old car, it does need some cosmetic items but the heavy lifting is already done. DRIVETRAIN In 68, only the Hurst 442 came with the 455 so the motor is a transplant. The block stamping is 396021F which is correct for a 68-72 455 cubic inch 455 engine. The heads are Edelbrock, aluminum topped with aluminum Offenhauser finned valve covers. The carburetor is a Holley 4150 750 cfm double-pumper mounted on an Edelbrock Performer series single-plane aluminum intake manifold. The ignition system is composed of: * MSD Pro-Billet HEI Distributor * MSD Blaster 2 Coil * MSD 6 AL Digital Ignition Box * MSD 8.5mm Spark Plug Wires The transmission is a modified GM 700r4 4-speed automatic from the mid 1980s. I was told that it went to a well-known transmission shop in Maryland and was built to handle 700 hp/tq and currently has a 3500 rpm high stall torque converter. The rear end is the factory GM 12-bolt and it was upgraded with Moser axles Optima Red Top 800 CCA battery From what I can see, all of the parts used in the engine and drivetrain are high quality and the workmanship appears to be professionally done, all of which matches what the former owner told me. PERFORMANCE This is an old-school high performance muscle car that does NOT include any of the following modern conveniences: * Anti-lock braking * Rev limiter * Traction control * Launch control * Stability control * Forward Collision Warning * Lane Departure Assist You will need to govern the use of your right foot to control the vehicle. EXTERIOR The paint looks great even at 5 feet. It has a few areas of bubbling that need to be addressed and there is two spots about the size of your hand where it was touched up by an amateur and needs to be redone. However, it does not need a lot of paint and bodywork. The paint looks good, the panels are straight and it’s definitely not a rust bucket. The floor pans appear to have been replaced.

1968 Oldsmobile 442

This 1968 Oldsmobile 442 hardtop has one of the most dominating widebody stances ever, and under the hood is its numbers-matching 400 V8 to back up its looks. And with a cool color combo, a great driving attitude, and factory correct restoration, it makes for an irresistible total package.

1968 was the debut of the second generation 442. No longer just an offshoot of the Cutlass, the muscle car celebrated its independence with one of the most intimidating designs of the 60s. Sure, it still carried much of the same overall appearance as its Olds A-body siblings, but the flared fenders, rounded rear, and long pillarless Holiday hardtop silhouette all look so much better in muscle car form. Plus, when you have that dark grille with the bold 442 badging in the middle of the wide dual headlight housings, it just makes for a truly sinister machine. As a true Oldsmobile, this never loses its premium touches. For example, there's a trim line that starts at the headlights and highlights the curves of the profile all the way through the door line. Finished correctly in Ocean Turquoise Metallic, this car has the proper 442 side stripes, but they are painted on and cleared over for a smooth permanence. The stripes work well with the correct Provincial White roof that looks like a vinyl top, but it's really painted for a glossy and easily maintained style. It makes for a full package that's thoughtfully detailed, right down to the shine of the form-hugging bumpers.

All the white accents of the exterior get you ready for the full white interior. The clean look of the correct pleated vinyl on the seats and door panels looks great. The interior features factory air conditioning and is all done to factory specifications, right down to the working stock AM radio. An upgraded wood-rimmed sports steering wheel gives you a clear view of the sporty round gauge package.

Under the hood is a numbers-matching V8 in this American muscle icon. Part of the fun of owning a '68 is getting to tell the story about how the 400 cubic-inch motor was the maximum GM would allow in its production intermediates at the time. This one looks terrific with the full cooper-colored engine and distinctive 442 air red cleaner, and an overall clean and correct setup that signals this has been given proper care. The mighty V8 inhales deeply with a four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with a sweet sound out of the rumbling dual exhaust. As a true Oldsmobile, this is built to balance power and comfort. A stout TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, a limited-slip rear, and sway bars front & rear add to the pleasurable driving experience.

 HIGHLIGHTS:
• Matching Number 400 Cubic Inch Engine
• TH400 Automatic Transmission
