      <link>https://hotrodhotline.com/forsale/vehicles/pontiac/firebird/1981/listing/235828</link>
<description>With its clean Cameo White paint ornamented by a sizable Screaming Chicken emblem on its hood, arguably the most recognizable decal in modern history, this 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM SE is a true flagbearer for early '80s muscle car style. The paint represents its original color scheme when it debuted more than 40 years ago and is in great shape, showing nice, even pigmentation and a pleasing shine. Take a lap around the car and you'll see that the contrasting black elements, including the front grille and lettering on the sides of the fenders, still show their original coloring, with no signs of UV damage to be found. A set of staggered 20" Boss wheels that feature beefy 275 series tires in back adds the perfect finishing touch to this low-slung cruiser's curb appeal.

The interior has been updated while keeping the theme of tastefully high-impact aesthetics intact. You'll find a pair of Recaro bucket seats in place, wearing two-tone, black and red covers that tie in perfectly with the expanse of matching carpet lining the floor. The dash area sports an instrument panel with a striking, machine-turned finish, and inside that panel, you'll find a collection of fully functional gauges. Just below, a Kenwood AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth connectivity sits in place of the original radio, standing by to tend to your audio requests.

A closer look at this Pontiac's hood scoop will reveal the power that lurks beneath, in the form of a 468-cubic-inch V8 at the center of a well-maintained engine bay. Fed by a Holley 4-barrel carburetor sitting on top of a Weiand intake manifold, it's a potent engine that gives a fitting nod to a time when this model was often equipped with expansive V8s, a practice that ended about a half decade before this Firebird rolled out. Exhaling into long tube headers leading out to a pair of Flowmaster mufflers, the big block pairs with a 3-speed automatic TH400 transmission that's fittingly navigated via a B&amp;amp;M ratchet shifter inside the cockpit. A pair of added electric fans combines with a sizable aluminum radiator to keep temperatures down in more demanding driving conditions. Power disc brakes at all four corners bring this classic to a stop in nothing flat, and with a new brake booster and master cylinder in place, they're operating in top form.

      <description>1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

For consignment, a 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with 1,132 original miles. This is a one owner, bought new, garage kept and covered time capsule sporting the 305ci V8 and 15-inch snowflake wheels from Year One. The original Pontiac Rally II wheels come with the car and so does the window sticker!

  Exterior
Thirteen colors were available in 1981 for the Trans Am and five different graphic colors. Here we have Nightwatch Blue in single stage coverage, adorned with a light blue bird, sometimes referred to as the screaming chicken, eagle, or Phoenix. The light blue is also used on wording TRANS AM on each front fender under the iconic fender vent, on the rear facing side of the spoiler, and on smaller birds perched on the C-pillars. Finally, it's used to delineate the engine with 5.0 LITRE on the shaker hood scoop and between the scoop, the vents, and the wheel opening flares, this car represents GM's boldness in design just before the Firebird would be completely redesigned for 1982. Dark window trim, door handles with color matched stripes, and the amazing smoked tail light bar help make this car a standout among F-bodies and the cars of 1981 in general. Imperfections include some exposed seam sealer between the rear bumper cover and body, chips, paint runs, paint on the door latch, some wavy paint in the jamb, chipped paint and correction on the corner of the Endura nose piece, uneven paint on the rocker, drips in other places, various other random minor intrusions.

  Interior
Dark blue vinyl door panels are clean and trimmed with a silver line above the carpeted kick panel and this car has manual windows. Cloth seats are not dissimilar from previous years however the insert is more of a striped design rather than the hobnail configuration in '79 and '80, and each, including the 2+2 in back, are in great condition in dark blue. Up front, the foam backed and leather wrapped sport steering wheel is minty mint, the column is showroom fresh, and the spun aluminum faceplate to the instrument cluster shines like new. Standard gauges are on board and two vents mirror the size and shape, falling in line with centrally located gauges. An embedded A/C panel and cigarette emblazoned lighter live over the AM/FM radio down below. In the center console, the shifter rises from a pit like a cobra from a basket, dressed in a rubber accordion boot and surrounded by the blue vinyl casing that covers the center hump. Plush blue carpet flows over the floor and is protected by carpeted mats while the perforated headliner shows some minor wrinkling. Charcoal colored mats cover the trunk where a space saver spare and jack are found looking untouched.

  Drivetrain
The engine bay is a clean and crowded place with partial visual obstruction caused by the shaker scoop on top of this, a 305ci LG4 V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor and rated at 145 horsepower. A numbers matching T10 4-speed manual backs the powerplant up and sends power to a 10 bolt rear axle with 3.08 gears and Positraction. Power brakes are supplied as front disc and rear drums, while power steering and air conditioning are also on board.

  Undercarriage
A black undercoating dominates the clean underside where surface rust is minimal, knuckles are clear, and only a single drop of oil is seen on the filter. Dual exhaust flows through original equipment mufflers before existing via straight pipes angle cut at the end and not the decorative chrome splitters of previous years. The standard suspension is coil springs in front and leaf springs in the rear.

  Drive-Ability
Our drive is just a few blocks so as not to turn the odometer too much, and the 305 performs as well as you'd expect. Not blistering fast but the road holding capabilities of the F-body cannot be denied and the car bears out this prowess and also tracks straight and stops well. We note the A/C is not working and the entire left rear light is out including brake, driving, and turn signal. Beyond that, everything in this near pristine machine works as it should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Perhaps one of the hottest cars in the collector world and you just got wind of a potentially super low mileage example that has many attributes which are like new. If you're looking for one of the cleanest around, look no further than Classic Auto Mall. If you had one but had to sell it, (been there, done that), now's your chance to get back into the cloth seat of this once relatively common car. Collectability is only rising as great examples become more uncommon. Bluebirds are singing and this one is calling your name!

<description>1981 Pontiac Firebird Bandit Edition Turbo Trans Am

For consignment, a 94,891 non actual mile 1981 version of the screaming chicken adorned hood, T topped, PHS documented, black and gold, (hi oooooh!), Trans AM from Pontiac. This car is also one of the 5,263 Bandit Editions built, was completely redone in 2016 by Legacy Innovations, competed in the 2013 Bandit Run, and has only been driven 550 miles in the last 9 years. Let's take a spin, evade Buford and his son Junior, stop at the nearest choke and puke and this time, let's avoid the Diablo sandwich and Dr. Pepper.

Due to varying emissions control devices being removed, please check with your state, county, local or provincial motor vehicle department to verify the ability to legally register this vehicle in your area***

  Exterior
Code 19, Starlite Black, bathes the exterior of this racy looking car. It will stand out in a crowd with a gold screaming chicken decal, two color, (gold and tan), decal badging, and gold turbine styled wheels. All fender flaring, neoprene bumpers matching the body black and a rear spoiler look to be in top notch condition with nearly no flaws in the finish and certainly no rust. Side vents can be seen on the front quarters, and a chin spoiler is just below the gold stripe highlighted black grilles. The back is more racy with the rear spoiler and ribbed black horizontal bar panel to use the taillights. Another deep end of the pool black neoprene bumper is hanging on the bottom. Up top it features black smoked glass for the removable "T" top and all trimmings for the side windows are in black and highlighted in gold. The gold from the hood decal encompasses the A pillars and moves to the top. A turbo hood, with lighting on the back of the scoop to indicate boost levels hovers above the quad of headlights and has the Turbo 4.9 decaling. Some gold pinstriping also shows up and offers up some nice highlighting to the gold and tan tones on the black.

  Interior
Light Doeskin is the color motif for the interior chosen and is the perfect compliment to the black. Swinging the long doors and getting past the Doeskin colored vinyl door panels are showing a side view mirror toggle, power lock actuator, and some thin shiny trimmings we are greeted with high back buckets in front and a 2 plus 2 bench for the back. These are covered in broadcloth in light tan with some vertical striping and shallow tuck and roll inserts. The bolsters are a smooth, slightly darker Doeskin and all is looking just fab. A chocolate brown console shoots forward between the buckets and houses a glovebox, power window switches, and shift lever. As it rises it meets the circle machined pattern aluminum dash that houses black faced original gauges all held within a crack free chocolate brown padded dash. There are plenty of them as well, all in circle form, even a factory tachometer, and a clock is seen on drivers left. Air conditioning, a multitude of gauges, a see through roof, power windows, tilt steering wheel, AM/FM/CD stereo, and rear window defogger. What more could you want?  Oh, I know, read on!

  Drivetrain
Under the screaming hood is a numbers matching 301ci turbocharged V8. It has a single 4-barrel carburetor on top and a TH350 3-speed automatic on back. A 10-bolt 3.08 Positraction rear axle spins the tires. This engine bay has been restored to original and is showing well with a multitude of wiring and hoses throughout.

  Undercarriage
Some light surface rust is seen on the usual suspects with independent coil spring suspension in front and leaf springs in back. The unibody, flooring and rockers remain solid and show in a mix of black paint and undercoating to provide years of protection. RPO J65 4 wheel power disc brakes have been optioned along with the WS6 performance package. A dual to single to dual exhaust ends in chrome tipped dual outlets in front of both rear tires, but we note that the catalytic converter has been removed.

  Drive-Ability
As I slipped in for my test drive I buckled myself firmly in the Doeskin high backs and was off. Nice turbo acceleration after a slight lag, and smooth shifting from the TH350. Bias free panic stopping albeit with a notable soft brake pedal and all functions were in working order save for a the power locks being inoperable, the speedometer and odometer not functioning, the T-tops are sealed shut, and a fluttering oil pressure gauge, (the oil is full and no engine noises are heard, so we chalk this up as a failing gauge or sender). While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Nicely restored and with all its fairings and flaring, scoops and spoilers, and the T-tops we are firmly in Trans Am heaven, but actually in the West hallway of the Classic Automatic's Malls Hallowed Halls. You got your ears on good buddy?
