      <title>1940 Pontiac Other</title>
      <link>https://hotrodhotline.com/forsale/vehicles/pontiac/other/1940/listing/236622</link>
<description>1940 Pontiac Deluxe 8 Silver Streak Superior Hearse

For consignment, a 1940 Pontiac Deluxe 8 Silver Streak Superior hearse showing 26,571 miles, but the true miles are unknown. While the genre might be considered macabre to some, the enthusiast Professional Car Society looks at these for the true classics they are, and for the critical role they played in important family affairs.

  Exterior
As it was back in the day, this hearse is solid Black and the proportions are like no other Pontiac with a rising roofline over long windows and a tall body, more than 15 hands in equine terms. The rear door cants forward perhaps to allow easier access to the floor and the door has a robust handle under a modest window. The bumper displays an early Pontiac badge and the tail lights are impossibly small for such a big car, but that was the norm in 1940. A spare tire cover is embedded into the front fender, visually interrupting the side stainless trim piece that goes from the nose and all the way to the back where it follows a descending body line. Trim in the front is an elegant, five part strip that extends across the hood, capping stunning emblem, nose piece and grille, with yellow fog lights introducing some color to the exterior. There is some checking in the paint and a rust spot on a door, but otherwise paint and trim are in very good shape.

  Interior
Blue velour covers the door panels, including the rear hatch, sidewalls, and bench seat in front, all presenting with a bit of patina and some tears on the seat, but the color works well with the ivory knobs and bezels of the door hardware. Blue velvet curtains with yellow fringe are held in place with drapery tiebacks of rope. Plenty of patina in front where a 3 spoke steering wheel fronts and simulated woodgrain dash with art deco gauges, name plates, and another Pontiac logo. The floor in front is covered with a rubber mat, but in back its blue carpet is embedded with some of the hardware needed to load the typical cargo.

  Drivetrain
Under the hood is a driver quality 248.9ci L-head inline 8 cylinder with a 2-barrel carburetor and a horsepower rating of 100. It's mated to a 3-speed manual transmission which routes power all the way back to the 4.30 gears. The car runs on a 6 volt system and has no radio, no power steering, and no air conditioning.

  Undercarriage
Driver quality under here with residual oil about, typical road grime, but minimal surface rust and the visible coachwork is in good condition. Drum brakes are supplied to all four wheels and suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in the back. A single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and exits under the bumper.

  Drive-Ability
Well, the driver's seat is the place to be in this vehicle, and off we roll onto the tarmac after the inline 8 hums to life. It definitely feels big to the average person but for those who favor professional vehicles, it's par for the course. We note the gas gauge, heater blower, and horn are not working but all remaining functions operate as they should on this hallowed hauler. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Instantly recognizable for what it is, that hasn't stopped others from hot rodding these hearses and there's lots of space to work with, both in the engine bay and in the interior where, if you'll excuse the expression, the sky's the limit. Ambulances, flower cars, hearses and others have a strong, niche following so if this is your first foray, know that there are friends to be made!

Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (that's more than 8 acres!). <title>1940 Pontiac Other</title>
      <link>https://hotrodhotline.com/forsale/vehicles/pontiac/other/1940/listing/235703</link>
<description>1940 Pontiac Deluxe 6 Series 26 Sport Coupe

For consignment, a 1940 Pontiac Deluxe 6 Series 26 sport coupe showing 23,248 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Pontiacs extensive line for 1940 was touted in the sales brochures as, "the biggest, smartest, finest performing 'Silver Streaks' ever built. The widest choice offered by any motor car manufacturer today."

  Exterior
Emerald Green Metallic envelopes this elegant car and although only ones series was named 'Torpedo', the entire line displays the torpedo body style which raises the hood in line with the beltline of the car and forms a continuous line, highlighted here by a silver trim piece that travels the length of the car. The high nosed front is accented with triple lined ornamental trim that emulates vents on the hood. In front, a split grille, cross trim with Pontiac engraved and the Odawa war chief emblem, and below it an intricate bumper with accent stripes on the bumperettes. Of course, this is topped with the Indian head hood ornament, stretching forward as if pulling the car. 16-inch steel wheels are painted black, pinstriped, and wear beauty rings and Pontiac hubcaps. Imperfections include some evident filler, scuffs, scratches, and chipped paint, rough spots, touched up chips, rust near the running board, itself dry and cracked.

  Interior
Better than barn find condition on the inside, but it is a candidate for restoration. The cloth door panels are heavily stained, as are the side walls and headliner. The front split bench is covered with plaid material while the rear bench shows its age and has a tear on the front. A wrap around the brown plastic steering wheel is fraying and the center cap faded but our eyes advance to the dashboard which the sales brochures describe as "the plastic and chromium instrument panel is typical of the fine taste and thoughtfulness that has gone into the styling of Pontiac interiors". We don't disagree as it represents period luxury in art deco style and presents in decent condition with some patina. The floor is covered with a faded rubber mat and the barren trunk shows some rust spots and some previous lead repairs.

  Drivetrain
Driver quality and original looking is how we find the 222.7ci inline six cylinder, originally rated at 87 horsepower and utilizing a 1-barrel carburetor. It's rowed into motion by a three on the tree manual transmission that sends power to 4.30 gears in back.

  Undercarriage
Driver quality here as well with some grease and gunk build up around the rear differential, engine, and steering components along with typical surface rust, and the rust through from the running board shedding light. While on the lift, we're able to see significant rust under the driver's door. Meanwhile, a single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler, terminating just under the rear bumper. Drum brakes are front and rear and suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in back.

  Drive-Ability
We settle into this 85 year old, get her running, and head out onto the test loop where aside from the exhaust leaks, the inline six runs well and the car tracks straight. Looking over that big hood gives a feeling of invincibility and power, it's a fantastically shaped car! There are limited functions on board but they all work as intended and we slide this green Silver Streak back to the mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Pontiac was a proud and vibrant company in 1940 and the extensive line of automobiles not only had a brand resemblance, but were promoted with positive affirmations for economy, performance, and comfort. Everyone portrayed in the sales brochure is smiling widely as they drive or ride in their new Pontiac. You'll be smiling too with this survivor, its decent bones providing the canvas for greater endeavor while being fully capable as is.

      <title>1936 Pontiac Other</title>
      <link>https://hotrodhotline.com/forsale/vehicles/pontiac/other/1936/listing/211537</link>
<description>1936 Pontiac Master Series 6 Touring Sedan

As the United States was coming out of the economic devastation of the Great Depression, car buyers were seeking much more utility and value for their money than ever before, and found it in the 1935-1936 Pontiac.  A more conservative, more practical mindset was now the order of the day.  Closed cars were far more frequently ordered than open body styles, as were engines of smaller displacements, usually sixes.  The new design was the brainchild of Franklin Q. Hershey, a Californian who was a designer for coach builder Walter Murphy, and more recently had come over from Hudson.

For consignment, a barn find 1936 Pontiac Master Series 6 Touring sedan.  A more streamlined, Art Deco machine that ushered in a design cue destined to be a trademark for the division for more than 20 years, the famed "Silver Streak".  It will need plenty of TLC to bring it back to snuff, but it could be a labor of love and time spent in your "personal space" as one with the project!

NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY

  Exterior
Up front, the Silver Streak treatment begins as a bright band, (now sadly heavily surface rusted), of multiple ribs running from the base of the windshield and across the top of the hood, forming a somewhat streamlined waterfall grille.  Complementary touches included deco-inspired trim on the hood sides and large bullet styled encased circular headlights.  Legend has it that the Silver Streak design theme was inspired by a photo of a Napier race car, its oil cooler protruding through the hood, that Hershey saw in a French magazine.  Below is a semi-shiny simple curved bumper framing the bottom of the car's front end.  A large curved english wheel shaped fender, almost the beginnings of the pontoon styling, frames the front tire and wheel.  This moves rearward eventually hooking up with a running board and then leading to the rear fender which is a simple curve inset more input the rear bodywork.  Patina riddles the body in the form of rust, both surface and invasive, faded paint, dents, staining and overall wear.  The running boards have black ribbed rubber coating on them, which may have protected them over the course of the last 87 years.  4 doors, with the glass showing major hazing cataracts and the driver's rear being replaced with plexiglass is seen.  The roofline is surface rusted and the rear doors are rear hinged.  In back, a humpback styled trunk is on and it has a wonderful bottom curve created by the rear fender lines wrapping downward and curving across the back.  Another simple curved bumper, this time tarnished and rusted, frames the bottom and a single tail light casings, although the lens is gone.  16-inch steel wheels with 3 shiny chrome dog dish caps, have mixed style tires wrapping them to make the car easier to move around.

  Interior
A swing of the doors and we see the tattered remnants of the coffee brown mohair door panels that have long since been water damaged and rotted out.  A front and rear bench are in and surprisingly their brown mohair covers remain intact and usable.  The headliner and side interior panels are dry rotted away revealing the structural metal.  The dual eyebrow curved dash front is in need of total restoration, as are the floors and instrument panel of the dash.

  Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 208ci inline 6 cylinder.  It has a 1-barrel carburetor and a 3 speed manual transmission.  On the back is a 4.44 rear axle.  The engine does not presently run and plenty of surface rust and corrosion is noted for this engine and bay.

  Undercarriage
Heavy surface rust is vouchering all steel X framing, and stamped floor pans.  The rust is heavier on the undersides of the floor boards and hangers for them.  The beginnings of invasive rust holes are seen on the floor pans at various areas as well.  Leaf springs are all around, and drum braking is on all 4 corners.

Definitely a barn find, plenty of TLC is needed for this model which does have beautiful high end Art Deco lines, and snazzy interior styling.  It just needs to be brought back by the correct individual, all they'll need is ambition.
