Each year, the Carlisle GM Nationals offer something unique for its guests. Last year, the first-ever Camaro to be produced was shown, and this year, it’s something even more unique. This year will feature a one-off mash up of an Olds 4-4-2 and a Toronado, which was produced by Hurst Performance. It is called The Fouranado and will be on display June 17-19 in Carlisle, PA as part of the annual Carlisle GM Nationals.

The Fouranado was created late in 1967 when Hurst Performance decided to experiment with the newly re-designed Olds 4-4-2. The Hurst team thought it’d be a great move to take the front-end drive features from the Toronado and place it in the 4-4-2 chassis. The result was a car that was built only once, but was forever branded and known as the Oldsmobile Fouranado.

This car is about more than it seems like. The name Fouranado reflects a car that is 4-4-2 equipped, but has the heart of a Toranado. Hurst used the 455 C.I., W-34 package engine offered in the Toronado as the power plant to drop into the experimental car and the entire project involved a lot of custom work. This work included sectioning the fenders, flattening th efloor, and blending the frames of both the Toronado and the 4-4-2. Guests will get the see the end result of this project at Carlisle in June.

Although this is a one-of-a-kind unique build, it has not always had a museum life. Little is known about its life in the late 60’s, but in 1970 a California man bought the car and drove it regularly for 16 years. The owner eventually moved to New Jersey, and then to Oklahoma City. The car’s uniqueness was not wasted, however, as it was only used on nicer days. Later on, the car was purchased by the owner who still has it today, a big Olds fan, who meticulously restored it and debuted it at the 2013 MCACN Show in Chicago.

Now that the location and status of the Fouranado is known, it will be the centerpiece display vehicle in Building T at Carlisle.
