Galpin Motors, home of famous Galpin Auto Sports (GAS), is now also home to a long-lost custom 1956 Ford F-100 Pickup by Ed "Big Daddy" Roth.
Fames Rat Fink designer Roth used the Ford as advertising for his pin-striping business. It was the first custom truck of note he ever created. A Packard V-8 sat under the truck's hood, and it featured Roth's signiature red flame pinstripes, extensive chrome plating and a mural on the tonneau cover.
Prior to Galpin's acquisition of the truck, this piece of automotive history sat in an Oklahoma barn for over 30 years. The team at GAS (also responsible for many other significant resorations, including Roth's Orbitron, Mysterion, "Tweedy Pie" and Dan Woods' Ice Truck), led by Dave Shuten, restored the truck using new old stock and period correct parts and equipment. The Ford made its debut at the Grand National Roadster Show earlier this year.
“We pride ourselves on finding orphan rods, the ones that seem lost forever,” said Beau Boeckmann, President of Galpin Motors. “There’s something so incredibly special about bringing a major piece of automotive history back to life and we couldn’t be more thrilled to restore the Roth truck like we have done with so many others!”
