Goodguys announced their choice for the 2015 Flowmaster America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod competition.  The winner is retired engineer and lifelong car enghusiast Al Nagele of Wilmette, Illinois for hiscustom “Deuce Flyer” ’32 Ford Roadster.

Nagele had always envisioned a street rod roadster, but not a traditional deuce roadster.  He wanted something modern with a European sports car twist.  He designed and engineered every part of his custom roadster and then turned his design over to the craftsmen at the Roadster Shop.

He was surprised with the Deuce Flyer – a roadster that would look at home wherever it went, whether it be the lawn at Pebble Beach or the local hot rod show, or even on the stage at the Goodguys West Coast Nationals.  

Nagele’s Deuce Flyer has been winning awards all year.  In March, it was a Pierelli Great 8 Ridler finalist.  In July, it was a finalist for Goodguys/Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year.  And then it took the crown for America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod last weekend at the Goodguys show.

“He’s earned every bit of this honor,” said his wife, Erma.  “He worked so hard engineering every aspect of that car!”

The Roadster Shop worked straight from Nagele’s design to come up with a custom chassis equipped with a Pete & Jake’s 5″ dropped axle that rests beneath the highly modified Brookville Roadster steel body.  The Roadster also features raised rear wheel wells, a reshaped cowl, a stretched hood, and more.  It is also equipped with a potent GM LS motor with CNC heads, Comp Cam, Edelbrock dual quads, and a sporty Tremec 5-speed.

The custom touches on this vehicle are vast, and even though the car is small, the impact is huge.  The Deuce Flyer is an exotic touring car, a sports car, and of course, an American hot rod.  It is both elegant and sporty, and it’s one of a kind!

Fellow finalists for Goodguys 2015 Flowmaster America’s Most Beautiful Roadster included Dale Fode with a ’34 Ford, Greg & Dotty Meyer with a ’33 Chevy, Gary Rasche with a ’32 Dearborn Deuce, and Brian George with a ’47 Ford.
