The coming year's Carlisle Chevrolet Nationals, held June 23-25 2017, will feature the first Camaro ever produced - the Camaro N100001.
Along with many other Camaros and Firebirds, the car N100001 will appear in Building T to celebrate 50 years of these iconic F-Body cars. While Building T is always popular for its varied and engaging displays, N100001's presence makes this year’s gathering especially special. The first of 49 pilot cars built at the Norwood assembly plant, N100001 was painted Grenada Gold and powered by a 230 C.I. straight-six engine. It also featured whitewall tires, a push-button radio and a unique 110 volt static lighting display, utilized by GM when showing the vehicle. While not overly flashy, the N100001 attracted significant attention at its debut. After finishing its tour and having the special lighting display removed, it was delivered to R.T. Ayers High Performance Chevrolet in Yukon, OK, where it acted as a showroom feature vehicle.
Later, the N100001 was sold several times and then eventually turned into a drag car. It was put into storage after years of racing, and only rediscovered in 2009. The finder recognized the significance of its VIN and eventually sold the car to its current private owner. The car's restoration was completed in May of 2014, and since then it has toured the country, delighting thousands of viewers.
