NHRA Western Swing Continues in Sonoma

The NHRA's Western Swing has led to a number of amazing wins, some expected, some not.

Leah Pritchett took her seventh career win at Bandimere Speedway under cloudy skies, moving back up the Top Fuel standings. John Force made an impressive comeback as well, defeating Ron Capps, Matt Hagan, Cruz Pedregon and his daughter Courtney Force on his way to a Funny Car victory. Greg Anderson joined the winner's lineup after a long dry streak, rocketing back to the Pro Stock points lead. Finally, in Pro Stock Motorcycle, Hector Arana Jr. claimed his first winning trophy since fall of 2015.

At Sonoma, a sellout crowd watched in awe as part-time driver Blake Alexander sped past Mike Salinas, Antron Brown, Scott Palmer and Top Fuel's winningest driver, Tony Schumacher, on his way to victory lane. Robert Hight fell prey to the John Force Racing explosion curse, but blazed back to the lead in a backup car, locking his position in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs for Funny Car. Runner-up Ron Capps will join him there. Jeg Coughlin Jr. became the first driver in the Pro Stock class to clinch a spot in 2018's Countdown. Pro Stock Motorcycle didn't produce any repeat winners either, as LE Tonglet brought home the Wally winner's hardware.
