Why did you build this Corvette?
I bought my other Vette, a 2008 Z06 new in January 2008 and started customizing it right away. After four years of modifications I found myself making changes on the car just for the sake of change. I knew then that I needed a new project. I have always wanted a C2 and after driving a few originals and speaking with my builder Sean Farrell, owner of “The Vette Shop”, we agreed to build something special and the idea of turning the 64 into a Restomod was born.
If you are not the original owner, how did you find it?
The car was purchased from Hendricks Motors in North Carolina. Hendricks had it listed on Ebay with 1 hour left in the auction and multiple bidders on the car.
Does your car have an unusual history? Competition? Ultra low mileage?
The salesperson at Hendricks told me they had traded with OttRods- Hot Rod Ranch in Park City, Utah a “ModifiedWoody” out of the Hendrick collection for the Sting Ray. I spoke with the owner Brad Ott and he confirmed that indeed the trade was made.
What condition was it in when you found it?
The car was in really good condition when I bought it. It had a nice paint job, Goodwood Green the color it is now and an aftermarket 327 under the hood. The interior was stock but with newer materials. There had been some restoring done to the car in early 2010.
How much of the car is still original
1 wing window, the 2 side windows and the back glass. That’s about it!!
How long did it take to bring your car to the condition it is now?
Start to finish the build took 9 ½ months. A short period of time considering what all was done to the car. We started with a pretty nice canvas but it is a testament to Sean, Derrick Widmann and Justin Bistany of the Vette shop. They are true craftsmen and their attention to detail is outstanding.
Who should be credited with the work?
The Vette Shop – Owner Sean Farrell and his outstanding team Derrick Widmann and Justin Bistany. The interior was done by Gary Maucher.
Who else helped in the buildup – family members, club members?
My Wife Lisa, who is an avid participant in every car show we enter, was very supportive throughout this build. That makes things alot easier when you are making a commitment of this magnitude. It also allows you to spend your money on the build opposed to lawyers in divorce court!
Has your car won any awards? Races?
