Colonial Beach Nostalgia Drags & Car Show
Colonial Beach, VirginiaTuesday, December 24, 2013
Great to go back to the beach after a lot of years, it brought back so many memories; it was the first drag strip that I raced at at the age of 16. It was the first track that I attended at the age of 8 with my dad and seeing a factory Dragon Snake run was a lasting memory. It was really nice to see the new owners of the track investing some money back in the facility. They bought some new cart trains for shuttling spectators in that I said they needed a long time ago. When I arrived at 8:30 the show field was already half full, the show ended with about 140 cars. The weather was perfect, drag racing was fantastic, and it was great seeing so many famous cars at this historic Virginia track. Charley Overfelt fastest flathead in the country from Roanoke Virginia, my buddy Johnny Rocca's Stonewoods and Cook Willys, Frank Privitora, 1948 Whoopie Anglia, and it was great to see the 427 1964 Falcon that my dad's dealership Herby's Ford sponsored. If the new owners run this 8th mile drag strip like they run their seafood restaraunt in our home town they will do very well. Just want to thank the Gore family for putting on a fantastic show.
