Metuchen New Jersey Christmas Parade
Metuchen, NJSunday, November 28, 2021
After a one-year hiatus due to the rampant COVID-19 Virus spread, the annual Metuchen Christmas Parade returned in all its glory. One change, was a throwback to a time when I was a little boy, roughly 58 years ago, when the Parade was a nighttime event, and the switch to a daytime event always seemed odd for me. Having grown up with the Parade always being at night, this year’s Parade to me, felt like it fixed a years long anomaly, and made things right again. The next throwback for me, was coming out from under the Main St Railroad Overpass, and seeing holiday lights, spanning the street. Until I noticed it was only one string of lights like that, I momentarily flashed back to standing streetside with my Parents and Sister, near what is now Antonio’s Pizza, and watching the Parade that night. By the way, the riders on the Float with Santa, were tossing Candy Canes to us kids. So, I loved this year’s Parade being a nighttime Parade again, and IF people just do the right thing, and stop crying about rights, and lefts, and middles, we can do this again in 2022, at night, as it should be.
