Australian Vintage Caravan Nationals - In many countries a camper trailer is known as a caravan. Lisa Mora from the Australian based Vintage Caravan Magazine www.vintagecaravanmagazine.com  was a guest of our's at the popular Beach Hop in New Zealand earlier this year. So when she invited me to join her on a 2000 mile road trip to the Australian Vintage Caravan Nationals, with her vintage caravan called  "Vicky in tow", I jumped at the chance. We left her home on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, and headed south towards the New South Wales town of Cowra, a couple of hours inland from Sydney.. The journey took a few days and we saw some beautiful Australian scenery, before meeting up with some fellow caravaners heading in the same direction, with just 2 hours to go to our destination.  Over 130 vintage caravans, most with matching classic tow cars, took over the entire Cowra caravan park for 1 week, with a public open day on Sunday April 29th.  Visitors were invited to walk through the caravans, of which many had period correct  "props" to bring back fine memories of camping in earlier times. Thanks to Lisa of Vintage Caravan Magazine, which was a sponsor of the event, there is a new wave of people finding a vintage caravan and either restoring it to its former glory, or hot rodding it with individual flair. The event was organised by an internet forum, which isn't a club, so anyone with a vintage caravan was welcome to participate. There were no prizes awarded or entry fee, however a hilarious charity auction raised over $2500 for cancer sufferers. It was a great event and we are looking forward to the next nationals in 2 years time.
