For Chris Gomez, racing is a way of life. Not just for him, but for his whole family. He grew up watching his dad race his Chevy Nova, and knew from an early age that he wanted to do the same. 10 years ago, he started racing whatever he could get his hands on, competing in Lovington, New Mexico in the southeastern corner of the state. Participating mostly in bracket racing in super pro and non-electronic class, Chris also has an IHRA Quick Rod license.  When he saw a Nova for sale on RacingJunk.com, he decided the time was right to enter the Nova fray.  The barn find had never been raced, so Chris removed the factory drivetrain and installed a motor and transmission for bracket racing.

He made a semi-final finish the second time out and won the third time out with it. Over the off season, he plans on making chassis and safety upgrades including a roll cage. “I’d  like to completely restore it someday but for now I am eager to just get out there and race!” Chris says.

Much as he loves the Nova, Chris’ ambitions don’t stop there. He’s eager to add a dragster to his stable and is shopping for something unfinished he can tweak to his own specs. He got a taste for drag racing last year, after he broke his dad’s car and entered his parents Yukon. That race netted them an NHRA Wally.  We’ll be keeping an eye on Chris, in all these classes!
