SO CAL. - The NMRA-TQ Midget Series, based in Moorpark, raced rounds three and four of 2013 on Saturday nights, April 13 and 20 at third-mile clay speedways in Santa Maria and Bakersfield. Both tracks also featured local track stock car divisions. Winners of the 20-lap main events were West Evans, in his own No. 36 Spike/Suzuki, and Mike Black, in his No. 14 Hart/Honda 750cc. The pair of victories made it four different feature winners in four NMRA events this season.

SANTA MARIA (4/13) – Evans started sixth and led laps 4-20 after passing fourth starter Black, who paced the first three laps. Seventh starter Chuck West, in Evans Motorsports No. 38 Stealth/Suzuki, finished second. Kenny Wiley started and finished third, with Black fourth. Pole starter Dave Lambert completed the top five. Don Kiefer and rookie Britt Grissom also completed all 20 laps. Adam Baker dropped out on lap 10. West and Evans won the pair of eight lap heat races.

BAKERSFIELD (4/20) – Black, a 2011 TQ rookie driver for the Baker team, won two NMRA-TQ main events last year on August 4 and September 29. Both triumphs came at the Bakersfield oval on North Chester Ave. in Oildale. He started from pole position and led all 20 circuits Saturday. Evans, from third, and West, from fourth grid position, earned the other podium positions. Early 2013 TQ winners Wiley, from fifth, and Victorville March 16 winner Anthony Lopiccolo, from sixth, completed the top five. Kiefer, Grissom and Lambert also completed all 20 laps. Rookie Chris Thomas did not start.

Past NMRA-TQ multi-champion West holds the NMRA drivers points lead by five points (244-239) over his first cousin/team owner Evans. Black sits third at 211. Evans Motorsports No. 38 car leads the team car (No. 36) by five points (256-251). Black's No. 14 ranks third in owner points with 223. Thirteen drivers and car owners have earned 2013 NMRA points to date.
