Rex Satterfield’s ’56 Bel Air “Elegant Lady” Steals the Show, Wins 2026 Ridler Award

Rex Satterfield showed up to the 2026 Detroit Autorama hoping his 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible might crack the BASF Great 8. What he didn’t expect? Rolling out with the Ridler Award.

But that’s exactly what happened.

Dubbed “Elegant Lady,” the stunning ’56 Chevy didn’t just compete — it captivated. Surrounded by some of the most elite custom builds in the country, Satterfield’s Bel Air stood out for its flawless execution, over-the-top detail, and undeniable presence on the show floor at Huntington Place.

Finished in a creamy “Light Coffee” hue that practically glowed under the lights, the convertible backs up its beauty with serious bite. A 1,000-horsepower Don Hardy race engine sits under the hood, while custom gauges, one-off wheels, a bespoke fuel tank, and a 1956 Pontiac dash showcase the level of thought poured into every inch of the car.

The build carries a deeper meaning as well. Original builder Jeff Wolfenbarger worked on the car while battling cancer before his passing in late 2024. The project was completed by Kevin Riffey of Kevin Riffey’s Hot Rods and Restorations, ensuring the vision was carried across the finish line — and straight into Ridler history.

In its 73rd year, Detroit Autorama once again proved why it’s the Super Bowl of custom cars. And this year, “Elegant Lady” walked away with the crown.
