Unlike last year, this time not only did the weather cooperate, so
did my vehicles, and we made it to the South Plainfield NJ annual Labor Day Parade. Last year, the Starter in my 76 Trans Am decided to give up the ghost right after we got to the Garage where my 1960 Plymouth hides out, so we missed the Parade. Oh, and since I had a mini Hi-Torque Starter in my Trans Am, it wasn’t simple to get another one quickly. We arrived at the Parade staging area at 9:00 A.M. and proceeded to wait until just after 10:00 A.M., when the units on our street began to move out. One notable difference in this year’s Parade was the number of political candidates for public office, and politicians in general, marching in the Parade. For a number of years it just didn’t seem like there were all that many political candidates or politicians marching in the Parade, but this year produced a bumper crop. Among those seen in the Parade were Congressman Frank Pallone and the first, that I know of, declared Democratic candidate for Governor, Phil Murphy, who nearly managed to wind up under my Trans Am a number of times as he darted back and forth in front of my car, trying to glad hand as many potential voters as he could.
We finished up at the High School on Lake St around 12:00 P.M., and after briefly talking to Phil Murphy’s campaign staff about automotive issues, headed out for Lunch, followed by the usual grueling clean up job prior to putting each vehicle away.
