| So you are out cruising to the local club sponsored event. The only thing that could make it better is for the hot summer sun to go down. Thank heavens for good cold air conditioning. The perfect parking space is spotted and you pull in and shut off the engine. About the time you have gotten out of the car and are starting to greet some friends the club President comes over and asks you to move to another parking space because this one is being saved for a special guest. “No problem” you say and get back in the car, turn the ignition key and nothing happens. As your face turns red with embarrassment you wonder what went wrong. A friend comes over with a screwdriver and says “Let me help” and shorts across the solenoid terminals with the screwdriver and the engine turns over.Sound familiar? This is a very common problem with starters that are surrounded by headers and an engine that is in a high heat situation. The problem is a starter solenoid that has expanded due to the heat and not enough current is flowing through the wiring to over come the friction. The solution. A hot shot relay from Painless Performance. These small relays, one has an extra bump switch so the engine may be turned over from under the hood, applies current directly from the battery source to the solenoid. Regardless of how much current the solenoid needs, the Hot Shot can supply it.A simple one hour or less installation of an inexpensive Hot Shot will prevent you from being in the situation again. | |
