One of our roving reporters from Australia, Steve Jones, has a new project to work on, a 35 Ford Pickup. He is looking forward to getting stuck into this Lil Pickup and hopefully will send us additional pictures of his progress.
Not much happening on the Rod Scene at the moment, so its time to get in the Shed for awhile & I thought I would send you some pics of the start of the Build Up of my 35 Ford Pickup.
Chassis was a bit Sad after we stripped her down, just look at the twist in the right horn & that L300 Front end has to go. | Not much room to work in, but we're under cover, pretty hot Summer this Year.
Our main Man " Boges " working out how to straighten the Front. | Aligning where the revamped HT Holden Front End is going.
New thicker boxing plates to hold Front End in place.
Holding Brackets are Tigged in place. | Inside view of Shocky Tower
Outside view of Shocky Tower Chassis holding bracket for Front End.
POR 15, its great stuff, you put one coat on with a brush & it looks like it has been sprayed on
All the Front End Bits hanging up to dry ready for re-assembling tomorrow.
My Mates reckon this is what I should put on top of the Carbies. | Windsor Block is in to set up Engine Tube.
We finally got the Sump right.
But it now looks like the Commodore Steering Rack is going to Foul the Engine Tube.
Made new Engine Brackets to suit Engine Mounts, so theSteering is clear. | Next task is to make the Block Huggers miss everything, may have to get a new Set made to clear Starter & allow Steering Shaft to come straight through to Rack.
Its all starting to come together slowly.
Update July 2006 Here are a few more pics of the 35 Pickup Build. We have managed to do a few things the last few Months. It’s been a fairly cold Winter this Year Down Under in Oz with more of the same in the next couple of Months. We have cut the old X-Member out, with new one to come later, but we have a new Cross Member in now & the Engine has been put together & placed back in Chassis to finish New Exhaust Huggers. |
|||
Its a 100% better than what we started with, but you have to start somewhere don't you, & as we say lot out here in OZ is " you can't rush these things " Well that's where we're up at the moment & we will send more Pics as the build goes on.
New Cross members made | Plenty of Holes to run Exhaust, Brake Lines Etc. & to make it look like original Chassis
Hand shaped Tailshaft Safety Loop | Ready to Weld into place
First we cut the old X-member out & this will be replaced with a new one later
Nearly in, just a bit more grinding off the bottom | There , fits like it belongs & it picks up the rear section of the X-member nicely
The engine is back, now it is time for a bit of Undercoat.
Yes, I know Ford’s are normally Blue.
Paints dry, time to put Engine back in Chassis so we can finish new Exhaust. | Looks OK with a few shiney bits.
New Block Huggers cut, shaped and in place.
Plenty of clearance now. | That’s the hard side down.
Update May 2007 - Here we have new X-Member which has been widened a little to allow Gear box to drop out more easly & I'm making Gear box Mount today.
Just have to make Spacer for bottom Pully | Gear Box mount is in & Tunnel Support is in.
Support Channel from Chassis Rail to X - Member is in. | Stiffener at Gear box Mount where it Bolts to X -Member
Gear Box Mount Bolted in. | Gear Box Mount from underneath.
This is where Brake Booster Mount will go, just have to cut & Drill Mounting Holes. | All coming together nicely.
Brake Booster is in | Not a lot of room in this Lil Workshop
Nice New Halihat | Exhaust is in
Picked this Aluminum Fuel Tank up at a Swap Meet, it was made for a 32 Coupe...Well it is now in a 35 Pickup
