Once again the weather g-d’s smiled upon us, and the 5th annual Metuchen Rescue Squad Benefit Car-Truck-Motorcycle Show was met with clear skies, and tolerable temps.
The Vendors began arriving just before 8:00 A.M., with the participants not far behind. By around 10:00 A.M. we had over 70 vehicles registered, and they just kept on coming in. The final tally was 97 registered vehicles for our Show, and $1,500.00 raised for our local ALL volunteer Rescue Squad.
In addition to the Rescue Squad, this year a collection was taken up for a local resident, car guy, and all around great person, Greg Gurz, who has been afflicted with A.L.S. (Arterial Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gherig’s disease. Greg has NO insurance, and the Bills are mounting. Knowing the Greg would jump to the call in a heartbeat to help anyone he knew was in need, passing the hat for Greg in his time of need, was a no brainer. We collected over $250.00 for Greg, and if anyone else would like to contribute, please let us know, and we will get you connected with the lady who is spearheading the fund drive for Greg.
For the most part the day went well, except for an annoying little incident with your truly’s 1976 Trans Am in the early morning hours for the Show, which thanks to dumb luck, and maybe noticing a wire getting hot, was no more than an annoyance, not a tragedy. Other than the minor incident mentioned, and a near tragedy involving a mysterious gust of wind later in the day that destroyed one of the Registration Table Canopies, as stated, things went well. Our DJ Tracery Tanner spun the tunes, our food vendors kept the hungry masses fed, and no less than two professional Photographers provided their services to the participants, along with two apparel vendors, a model car vendor, and vendor offering framed automotive themed prints.
At 2:30 the 50/50 was called, and at 3:00 P.M. the Awards ceremonies began, ending around 3:30 P.M., with 17 awards in total given out.
I would like to thank everyone who attended our Show this year, and hope all of you can make it to next year’s Show, and a HUGE thanks goes out to my Son Martin, and his friends and their girlfriends, who help check in our participants, fill in as proxies for our Sponsors, and help with the Awards ceremony, without their help, things would have been extremely difficult for us. A thanks also goes out to Jan Williams, who helped shepherd our participants in as they arrived.
Our Show next year is scheduled for August 9, 2015, Rain Date of August 16, 2015, with our new location to be announced on the Show Website as soon as we have the location confirmed.
Thanks again everyone, and see you all next year.
