Thomas V. McKernan, chairman of the board of the Automobile Club of Southern California, will serve as the museum’s board chairman. In this role, McKernan succeeds Alex Xydias, NHRA founder Wally Parks’ longtime friend and So-Cal Speed Shop founder. Xydias will continue to be an active board member, a role he has served in since 2010. “I am truly honored to be taking on this new role for the museum,” said McKernan, who, along with the Auto Club, has been a tremendous supporter of the museum and NHRA at all levels of the sport. “This is a wonderful opportunity to ensure that we are meeting Wally Parks’ dream: to influence, collect, and interpret drag racing’s rich history for a diverse community.” “We have a great board of directors, and I’m delighted to have McKernan assume the role as chairman,” said Xydias. “He has demonstrated a genuine commitment to the museum and passion for the sport. He is a tremendous asset for the museum.” Quarter-Mile Courtyard: VIP Experience at CHRR

Participates In Blue Star Museums
The museum has joined more than 1,800 museums nationwide in this summer’s Blue Star Museums program. Blue Star Museums participants give free admission to all active-duty military members and their families through Labor Day. “The Blue Star Museum program gives us the opportunity to show our appreciation for the dedication and service of our military men and women and thank their families for supporting them,” said Wally Parks NHRA Museum Curator Greg Sharp. Currently on exhibit are a number of collections that would interest both collectors and noncollectors, including Neon and the American Road, Moon: Six Decades of a Hot Rodding Eye- Con, and Cobra 50th Anniversary. 1101 W.
