Uptown Whittier
Car Show

8-15-09
Historic Uptown Whittier, CA

Story & Photographs by Roger Rohrdanz

Established in 1887, Uptown Whittier has a unique style that is eclectic and vibrant with many shops, antique stores, restaurants, cafes, and a local movie theater. Tall trees line the streets and provided shade for the show goers. The historic architecture of the buildings added an interesting backdrop for the cars.

The size of the 9th annual Car Show today seemed to surprise some people. It normally occupies about one block of picturesque Greenleaf Ave. This year it took two blocks of Greenleaf Ave and spread out the cross street of Philadelphia. Car count estimates were over 500. Every type of vehicle was represented including, classics, stock, street rods, traditional rods, dragsters, off-roaders, pickups, low riders, customs and European cars. A very live band played all day. The weather cooperated with comfortable 80 degree temperatures. There was a Raffle, a 50/50 drawing and the day finished with Awards.
