Utah Salt Flats Racing Association has officially announced that due to poor conditions at the Bonneville Salt Flats, the World of Speed for 2015 will be cancelled.

“After many hours of looking for, test dragging and inspecting the Bonneville Salt Flats on August 28th the USFRA team was unable to find a long or short course that would sustain or provide a safe venue for a 300 vehicle, multi-day event.  It is with heavy heart and great disappointment that the World of Speed for 2015 is cancelled,” USFRA announced via Facebook.

The announcement was made on Saturday, just over a month after the announcement of Speed Week 2015 being cancelled was made.

Officials are hopeful that the rain in the coming winter months will help restore safe conditions at the Salt Flats and racers will have the opportunity to come back and race in 2016.

In addition to World of Speed being cancelled, this year’s VW Challenge Nationals have also been cancelled.  Below is a list of VW Challenge events that fans can still enjoy in the midst of all these cancellations:

Sep 19-20 – Autumn Mile (UKTA Speed Record Club-Straightliners) have just announced a second one mile top speed event to be held at the Elvington Air Base in York, England (36hp & BB Challenge).
